Non Violent Resistance

More pie is in order...

Once again our brother, FB (or Spirit Across the Sea), has saved us, since murph's and my brains seem to have gone empty, and submitted a post.

Non Violent Resistance

From Belgium

Your average, run of the mill villain always reckons that they can spot the off duty copper in a bar and probably, since the advent of the internet, spooks have also been that much easier to pick out. This has not caused the CIA to abandon its roll and go skulking off into oblivion. It is alive and well and has now outsourced its field work to proxies.

Peter Ackerman is an immensely wealthy investor and board member of the premier U.S. foreign policy think-tank, the Council on Foreign Relations and is now the CIA’s privatised Grunt in Chief. Together with followers Gene Sharp who is generally credited with being the first person to study rigorously the techniques of mass civil disobedience and place them in the context of traditional military strategy and Robert Helvey, a 30 year veteran of the U.S. Army who served two tours of duty in Vietnam are the principal proponents of a nonviolent alternative to military intervention in the pursuit of U.S. foreign policy goals. Ackerman and Helvey have been training a modern type of mercenary, who travel the world, often in the pay of the U.S. government or NGOs, in order to train local groups in regime change. What the CIA used to refer to as destabilisation had been rebranded and remarketed as Non Violent Resistance (NVR). This is a clever hijacking of Martin Luther King Jr’s phrase used to bring about policy change within the USA to the international arena. However NVR is strictly a foreign affair, seeking to overturn governments abroad that operate outside the system of U.S. imperial domination. It’s about taking power overseas, in order to bring resistant countries into the U.S. imperial fold. Ackerman and Helvey have simply taken over a CIA function, made it semi-overt, and created the illusion that it’s progressive. Ackerman defines NVR as the shrewd use of strikes, boycotts, civil disobedience in addition to mass protests and even nonviolent sabotage, to disrupt the functioning of government and make a country ungovernable. Since strikes, boycotts and civil disobedience are traditional leftist techniques, NVR campaigns often garner the support of a large number of left-leaning people. But NVR isn’t about holding a demonstration, listening to speakers, and then heading home for supper. Neither is it pressuring elites — what most Western leftists set as the limit of their political activism. NVR is a political technique for overthrowing foreign governments. It’s not about making a point, it’s about taking power. Since the aim of NVR is to take political power abroad, NVR can be characterized as a form of Western warfare, employing nonviolent armies behind enemy lines.

Helvey witnessed armed opposition groups repeatedly fail in their attempts to overthrow the Myanmar government. The trouble was that rebel groups were going up against a regular army that could exercise overwhelming force. Sharp pointed out that governments have two sources of power: their ability to exact obedience coercively through their control of armies, police, courts and prisons; and their moral authority. Since a government can use overwhelming force to defeat most internal armed challenges, the key to taking power is to undermine the reason most people obey: because they believe their government is legitimate and has a right to rule. In Sharp’s view, most people obey, not because they’re compelled to, but because they want to. If a government’s legitimacy is undermined, people will no longer want to obey. That’s when they can be mobilized to participate in strikes, boycotts, acts of civil disobedience, even sabotage – anything to make the country ungovernable. Removing the authority of the ruler is the most important element in nonviolent struggle. NVR holds that destabilization works best when the target government is not supported by an entrenched party system that can claim a higher ideological purpose.

To buttress their efforts to undermine the moral authority of target governments, the destabilizers depend critically on the frequent use of the words “dictatorial” (to denote the governments they seek to bring down) and “democratic” (to denote the target government’s opponents.) It doesn’t matter whether the target governments are truly dictatorial or whether their opponents are truly democratic. What matters is these things are believed to be true. Getting people to believe target governments are dictatorial is done by repeating the charge incessantly, until the idea takes on the status of common knowledge, so widely accepted that proof is unnecessary. People can still be made to believe that four legs are good and two legs are bad or that Terrorism has declared war on the United States.

But what if the “dictator” has been elected, as is often the case in destabilization efforts? The destabilizers’ solution is to claim the elected leader came to power illegitimately, by means of electoral fraud but not in the USA of course where the moral high ground is kept green and lush. International monitors have shown that Ahmadiinejad’s presidential victory was legitimate. He was what the Iranian people (but not what the USG) wanted. The response of western propaganda apparatus was to repeat the opposition charge of electoral fraud over and over. Soon, the mass media and state propaganda apparatuses were singing out as one: the election was rigged. Likewise Mugabe in Zimbabwe was accused of election fraud even before the elections were held and as it happens he lost the election. The fact that he didn’t resign his government is an entirely separate issue.

Similarly, an important part of the destabilizers’ efforts to overthrow Slobodan Milosevic was to declare well before the first vote was cast in the 2000 presidential election that the outcome was a foregone conclusion. Milosevic would win, illegitimately. In fact, Milosevic came second to the main opposition leader, who failed to win more than 50 percent of the vote. With no candidate commanding a clear majority, a run-off election was scheduled. The runoff never happened. Instead, Milosevic was overthrown with the help of forces trained by Helvey in the name of democracy. It is no accident that the main opposition party in Serbia, formed under the guidance of U.S. advisers, was called the Democratic Opposition of Serbia, or that the main opposition party in Zimbabwe is called the Movement for Democratic Change, or that the main opposition party in Myanmar, Helvey’s pet project, is called the National League of Democracy. Western media reinforce this branding by frequently referring to opposition parties in countries undergoing destabilization as “the democratic opposition,” implying the governments they oppose are dictatorial.

Over a number of years, Helvey’s mercenaries trained an estimated 3,000 fellow Burmese from all walks of life including several hundred Buddhist monks in philosophies and strategies of non-violent resistance and community organizing. These workshops, held in border areas and drawing people from all over Burma, were seen as ‘training the trainers’ who would go home and share these ideas with others yearning for change. That preparation, along with material support such as mobile phones helped lay the groundwork for dissident Buddhist monks in September 2007 to call for a religious boycott of the junta, precipitating the biggest anti-government protests in two decades. For 10 dramatic days, monks and lay citizens poured into the streets in numbers that peaked at around 100,000 before the regime crushed the demonstrations.

Antiwar activists will find no ideological soul mates in Ackerman, Helvey and Sharp, who are conditionally against the use of violence, not out of moral principle, but because they believe violence is often an ineffective method of achieving what political violence is normally intended to achieve: the seizure of power. Ackerman’s affection for nonviolence has nothing to do with the tactic’s moral superiority. Movements that make a strategic decision to eschew violence, he argues, have a far better record of” success.

With debt servicing forming an increasing proportion of US GDP it is predicted that in coming years, defence spending will be reduced. We can expect therefore to see increased use of NVR. In other words, Sharp’s contribution to the peace movement is showing the U.S. ruling class it can achieve its imperialist goals by non-military means. Sharp and his disciples Ackerman and Helvey aren’t progressives at all. Nor are they advocates of the moral superiority of nonviolence. They’re imperialists who believe violence isn’t always the best policy in achieving imperial goals. However were it widely known that so-called “people power” movements are aided from abroad, their moral authority (and alleged home-grown character) would be called into question. In order to overcome this problem Havely says you need radios and the ability to produce and distribute information. You need to be able to train. You need to provide the activists with some income to take care of their families. When people get arrested, you need to take food to them in prison or the hospital. This is truly winning over your enemy’s hearts and minds. At the same time Washington applies multiple sanctions against and financially isolates countries that are the targets of NVR destabilization efforts: Zimbabwe, Belarus, Iran, Myanmar and Cuba. For instance, Zimbabwe’s hyperinflation was not the result of Robert Mugabe being a thoroughly bad sort; it was because he would not hand over his country’s assets to the World Bank. Economic warfare, though nonviolent, wreaks terrible devastation, while providing immeasurable help to the destabilizers.

Ackerman equates democracy with capitalism. What he really wants to protect is the right of investors (himself included) to expropriate the fruits of other peoples’ labour. That might explain why he thinks the United States, the world’s premier champion of capitalist exploitation, has an awful lot to teach people around the world. The major proponents of NVR are not independent grassroots organizers, socialists or anarchists. They are, instead, members of the U.S. financial and foreign policy establishment, or are linked to them in subordinate roles through organizational and funding ties. NVR is hardly progressive; it is an imperialist project whose only redeeming feature is the possibility that it may stimulate Western leftists to think about how they too might use the destabilizers’ techniques to take power in their own country to win the authentic battle for democracy.

Tunisia

Now we know how it works let us now have a look at what the patriotic people of Tunisia have just thrown away as being undesirable.

1. In September 2010, Tunisia ratified the international treaty banning cluster munitions, becoming the first country in the Middle East and North Africa to do so.
Tunisia is not believed to have used, produced, stockpiled, or transferred cluster munitions.

2. The 2010 Corruption Perception Index was released by Transparency International on 26 October 2010. The report shows that Tunisia is the least corrupt country in North Africa.

3. August 2010: The 2010 report of the Oxford Business Group on Tunisia referred to the stability and social peace prevailing in Tunisia.

4. September 2010: Tunisia has the most competitive economy in Africa, according to the report on world competitiveness 2010-2011 published by the World economic forum of Davos. It thus moves ahead of numerous EU member states such as Spain (42nd), Portugal (46th), Italy (48th).

5. January 2010: Tunisia is ranked best Arab state as regards quality of life with 59 points out of 100, moving up 3 points compared with 2009, by "International Living'' magazine , out of 194 countries.

6. August 2010: US "Newsweek" magazine ranked Tunisia first in Africa in its "100 best countries in the world'' ratings based on social, economic and political data.

7. 2010: The report on human development published by the UNDP ranked Tunisia 7th out of 135 countries in terms of 'long-term development indicators'

8. September 2010: Tunisia is ranked first in the Arab region and 6th in the world as regards the access of handicapped people to ICTs, according to ratings announced in Vilnius (Lithuania) by the United Nations at the 5th forum on the governance of the Internet (IGF 2010).

9. July 2010 Tunisia's foreign trade registers 31.1% growth.

10. Tunisia has a very low crime rate. In 2002 Tunisia's murder rate stood at 1.22 /100 000, the lowest in Africa.

Now all of that is gone and things are very different. It is really quite a toppling act and must surely be a feather in somebody’s cap.

So what did Tunisia do that was so bad?

Russia's former ambassador in Tunisia Veniamin Popov commented on the situation in Tunisia as follows: "The protests of the Tunisian people remind me of the Iranian revolution in 1979, when the Shah's regime was overthrown." (Is Tunisia a messenger of a big crisis?)

The Shah was modernising Iran, giving land to the poor and cracking down on heroin. But he criticised Israel and he was not always cooperating with the USA on oil. The CIA wanted a feudal Islamic Iran that could be used against Russia so, the Shah had to be demonised and toppled.

Ben Ali made Tunisia the most successful country in Africa, but he was not cooperating fully with the USA.
Tunisia supported neither the 1991 Gulf War nor the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
Ben Ali supported the Palestinians.
Ben Ali in Tunisia had to be demonised and toppled.
Ben Ali was popular, until there began a campaign of demonisation.
Now as a result of Ben Ali’s overthrow the US-Tunisian bilateral relationship is likely to remain unaffected.
After the start of the present overthrow Arab sources claim General Ammar "advised the President that his safety could not be guaranteed if he attempted to cling on to power. Gen Ammar subsequently withdrew the vast bulk of his forces from the capital. Walid Chisti, a political analyst, said: "He does not have to do anything, just watch and wait. He is an ambitious man."

Webster Tarpley has also made the following points:

1. The CIA hopes to overthrow or weaken the governments of Libya, Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Algeria, Yemen, and perhaps others.
They are also trying to remove Italian Prime Minister Berlusconi - because of his friendship with Putin and support for the Southstream pipeline.

2. Some History: The CIA's Roses revolution in Georgia became discredited by the warmongering of Saakashvili. The CIA failed with its Cedars revolution in Lebanon and its Twitter revolution in Iran. The CIA's Orange revolution in Ukraine was eventually rolled back.

3. Tunisia's Jasmine revolution was not primarily a matter of the middle class 'desire to speak out, vote, and blog. It started from 'the Wall Street depredations which are ravaging the entire planet.

Who are the destabilization operatives inside the US regime? Hillary Clinton, in Qatar last week, warned assembled Arab leaders to reform their economies (according to IMF rules) and stamp out corruption, or else be toppled

I know you were all wondering by now, what all of this had to do with Sun Tsu, the Chinese military strategist from 2500 years ago. Only that he declared that ‘deception’ was a legitimate strategy of any war.

Dang, Belgium! Now I'm wondering if this big Mafia bust in New York might be a way to make Buscalani (sp?)vulnerable to a Mafia attack in his country, just to make a point. And, poor Tunisia... we are doomed. The American public consistently votes against their own economic interests because they just don't "get it." There's no way we are going to become sophisticated enough to figure out what is going on internationally when a lot of us can't even find Canada on a map.
Thanks, again, for this thoughtful post.

great piece b.

as i was reading the first part describing the modus operandi and how its applied to the potential vulnerabilities of a foreign country's population i couldn't help but think; damn, he's describing the current atmospher in the u.s. population! we've even got the 'obama as dictator' thing going complete with the illigitimization of his position. the former is obvious and the latter might be true. its looking more that way now with the admission that there is no 'long' version of the birth cert.

and then, reading further on we see yet another form of u.s. might and arrogance playing out around the world in the name of democracy. the concept of democracy has never been so whored and so misrepresented in the entire history of civilazation as it has been by the u.s seeking power over eveybody and everything including the hijacking of natural resources and enslavement of the peoples. in psychological terms we hijack the very soul of entire countries and cultures of peoples. we go about this with an attitude that we're god's gift to humankind. in short, we're convinced we're the shit!! not all individuals making up the collective fit the profile but in terms of majority drift toward a collective world view, its an obvious match and a shameful one at that.

how did we become this way?

for reasons i won't go into here i've been doing a lot of research and reading on what katarina rutschky defined as poisonous pedegogies (pp) and subsequently popularized in the books of alice miller. miller goes into great detail about their affect in child development and how this grows up to be 'the social, cultural, familial, educational, and political norms' subsequently passed on to the next generation. and the next. and the next. miller posits that pp is causal to all kinds of mental and emotional disorders which includes the stuff of personality disorders. included in personality disorders is what academia terms narcissistic personality disorder. npd comes with a list of patterns which leads to my point...

the u.s., as a collective of peoples, suffers from pervasive npd! worse, a victum of npd becomes a perpetrator of those around them. when we connect the dot between the patterns of the grandiose arrogance we perpetrate upon the world as THE superpower (aka, the super ego) and compare these to the displayed symptoms that beg a diagnosis of npd we find a perfect match!

FA,
Just wanted to let you know we're drooling over that pie! Have not yet read this very tasty looking post from across the sea, (Hello to Bel and family :-) Have been non-violently constructing a post contesting Roundup Ready Alfalfa with a link where you can send your voice to Pres. Obama and Secretary Vilsack. Most in here probably gets the Food Democracy Now emails but just in case; have at it please!

The pie looks very well made and the post looks very well done. Bravo you guys! Wish we could graze on that pie while leasurely reading the post. That crust looks like perfect pastry. You can just tell it was done right!

Thanks folks you are too kind. Pleased to be of help Freeacre.

I guess most of you realise that the original title of Understanding Tunisia was left in by mistake and the sub title about Sun Tsu was included in the sources instead of at the top. That’s why the last line of the piece doesn’t make any sense. But hey ho am I worried about it, hell no :-) Freeacre and Murph, thanks for sorting out that page break that wouldn’t go away, I was tired when I sent it over and figured a way to do it after I went to bed.

Yeh, insightful comments p. I guess it is a collective fuck up of all smaller domino effect fuck ups. The callousness is on a truly grand scale. When we have previously discussed in passing where in the world we would choose to run away to even paradise has something about it that you are not altogether in accord with. There is always some negative point for the destabilisers to build on. If they can do it to an advanced and contented country like Tunisia the others on the list had better watch out. I am sure the warning has not gone unheeded. Incidentally I couldn’t include everything but it was reported that Tunisia’s hospitals were as good as the best private hospitals in the States. The truly amazing thing is that people keep falling for the same BS. It was always Zbigniew Brzezinski dream to unleash the Muslim Fundies on Russia Iran and China. It will be a hell of a scrap but I don’t think they are going to prevail.

Btw I read a little bit about Alice Miller on Arthur Silber’s Blog years ago but I guess I will have to brush up on it again.

Mrs p based on that picture I made an apricot and cherry pie this afternoon, an unusual combination but it seems to have worked. Perhaps we can eat pie whilst the wreckers go after Egypt.

The initial part of this blog post, concerning Peter Ackerman and Robert Helvey, is utterly false and is ripped from the notorious purveyor of disinformation about nonviolence, Stephen Gowans, and has been totally discredited by people who know the facts -- which you can find if you scroll down to their comments on previous postings of this garbage:

We need a new word for the Sheeple. How about "narciramuses" - a combination if ignoramus and narcissist?

Thanks for the compliment, mrs.p, on the pie crust. Now I have to start all over and learn to make decent crust using no gluten flour. When I went to this Chinese medicine doctor, she put me on this program of no gluten, no sugar, no dairy. So, needless to say, this is a challenge. That's why we are eating a lot of hummus and quinoa. I've got about 500 pounds of wheat flour and pasta collecting dust. Gaaaaah!

We were busy doing a presentation at the Grange on Wild Food Survival, so we missed the State of the Union speech. Watched it this morning on the net. Nice speech. Seemed like it was delivered from Candyland. Are we living on the same planet? Clif High's report came out the same day... that's what prompted the pie.

When non violent resistance to the establishment of the new world order becomes an integral part of the agenda itself, well, then it's just too crazy to sort out after that.

When good-doing non-profits like Seed Savers and the Organic Consumers' Association can be taken over by eugenicists from the pharmaceutical and agribusiness industries, when these same entities, (evil incarnate,) can infiltrate the alphabet agencies our government has mandated to protect the American public, write regulations favorable to corporate profits and demoralizing to small farmers, when not one fucking public official has the balls to go outside, point up and demand to know from air traffic control, "who's flying those planes and where are they going?", then, Jesus, fuck it, I give up.

Let me make it easy for you rp, what they want is to hold every living person on the planet in contempt whilst they liberate the fruits of their labour and redistribute it to themselves. And being bullies and cowards to boot they want the Islamic fundies to take on Russia, Iran and China on their behalf. I guess they have learned a thing or two about proxy servers. Just imagine how wet their knickers would be if they could figure out a way of filling the Pacific in.

Keeping our feet on the ground, those Scottish schoolgirls over at Aangerfan have reported on the next domino in the row that has been set up to fall over.

Belgium; I suppose the CFR would say the pentagram is interested in strengthening US/Israeli ties. But my research, (Dr. Alan Sabrosky,) indicates US military brass now firmly believes Israel did 9/11. Given the truth of atrocities the US military has suffered at the hands of the Israeli's, (USS Liberty attack, for one,) a 'white hat' coup or stand down by major elements of our military might not be wholly unexpected. After all, that B-52 with the cruise nukes from Minot only made it to Barksdale. Praise the patriots for that one...

Mr. Rense stated that he has gathered a host of Gulf Heroes slated to reveal Gulf Truth and give listeners the opportunity to stand in solidarity with people who have been poisoned and are suffering toxic effects...and those advocating for them.

Increasingly, Gulf state residents are struggling to survive illnesses and poisoning from the so-called "oil-spill," while their advocates, independent scientists and doctors, are fighting to survive often vicious extremist persecution, murder, assassination attempts, death threats, stalking and infiltrator actions.

Excellent post Belgium :-) Just no shortage of ways these corrupt elite players are finding to spread more mayhem around the world. The ruthless don't have any rules to follow, and thats why they more often than not move up to the top power positions and plunder all of us working class so successfully. We follow the rules and they laugh all the way to their overseas accounts with our pillaged earnings! I once read the phrase " morality is for suckers " and thats the mindset of these monsters.

As far as Non Violent Resistance, the concept in general didn't work out so well in the end for people like Ghandi and MLK since they took a fatal bullet for their troubles.

Heck the US might not have ever become a seperate country if the early European Invaders didn't choose violent resitiance to get their way with the elits across the great waters. To bad for the original inhabitants who our forefathers took this land from. But none of that matters since we are the oh so exceptional US of A!

I don't think the well armed US Narciramus Sheeple will do the Non Violent Resistance route as the realization becomes more stark in their minds that their lives are forever changed for the worst and that they and their children have been had by the elites. I think they will be much more inclined to act out in ways that they love to indulge in while playing the myriad violent video games that get their blood racing. I told my mom today that what we are seeing in the way of violent protest in most other parts of the world is coming to the US. Its only a matter of time.

RP, Here is some information about that last weather article link you referenced at the end of the last thread, the link about Accuweather and specifically Joe Bastardi. I see some of his clients are Oil Companies ( lucrative asssociations I'm sure ), and that he is a Fox News favorite too. He predicted a relatively mild winter this year for the northeastern US which has in actuality been hammered by snow storm after snow storm so far, like the latest one tonight.

Accuweather’s meteorologist Joe Bastardi likes to push anti-science global cooling conspiracy theories, which is no doubt why Fox News extremists like Bill O’Reilly love him........

And lastly, great lookin pie there Freeacre! Since I changed my diet its carrots and sardines for me arggg :-) Yeah I'm drooling looking at your delicious pie :-)

In this article the definite advantages of large scale bartering systems are discussed as apposed to the systems that the elites love to plunder us with of compound interest and money coming into creation through loans with endless growth as the dead end road it leads too. Barter systems are the way I think basic people are going to make it more and more as collapse unfolds. Of course the elites will fight it all tooth and nail. Screw em!

.....Yes, it is possible to transcend the dysfunctional money and banking system and to take back our power from bankers and politicians who use it to abuse and exploit us. We do it, not by petitioning politicians who are already bought and paid for by an ever more powerful elite group, but by using the power that is already ours to use the resources we have to support each other's productivity and to give credit where credit is due.....

Lying is, in their litany
of vicious sins, a venial flaw.
Would that we had only to digest
a few bitter untruths.
Drugged and apathetic,
we twirled in a private spin
to the same merry notes
despots, with their courtiers
and whores, enjoyed. Wasn't that
us, cheering soldiers off
to unending wars? Burning
the gas lucrative wars provide
in our SUV's on Sunday drives?
Now many of us sleep in cars.
Still, the great hall is lit,
though it's heavy doors
are barred. Occasional strains
lilt down the sobering streets.
No one feels much inclined
to dancing. And there are guards.

I had never heard of Bastardi. Just happened to see a headline and watched his video. Apparently, he had predicted a mild winter for the northeast, as did the English meteorologists.

All this talk about solar and lunar forces affecting the global climate is new to the mainstream, and the result of Piers Corbyn's recent popularity, since he predicted the severe cold engulfing western Europe last May.
He was mocked then by the mainstream, but he insists he and his colleagues are onto a true understanding of the science of weather prediction, that it involves solar and lunar inputs, and that by studying past events he can accurately predict future trends.

BTW, most of the planets in our solar system have been showing signs of climate change of late, which suggests the basis for anthropogenic claims is not valid.

Corbyn goes on to condemn the 'climate scientists' at East Anglia and the IPCC of fudging the data, most egregiously, of cherry-picking data to bolster their claims through the exclusion of reports disagreeable to their thesis.

Whether that charge is true or false, Corbyn has not shied away from stating it boldly, and frequently challenges the AGW proponents to open and public debate. You have to give him credit on that.

Personally, I think the issue of global dimming has received far too little focus.

I have no doubt, whatsoever, those spraying our skies are attempting to focus, right up the arse.

Discrepancy over nerve agent prompted lockdown at Dugway
January 27th, 2011 @ 10:01am

By ksl.com

DUGWAY -- Dugway Proving Ground officials now say a discrepancy over a vial of nerve agent prompted a lockdown that lasted nearly 12 hours. The vial has been located.

A news release Thursday morning said:

Wednesday, "during a routine inventory of sensitive material in the chemical laboratory, Dugway officials discovered a discrepancy between the records and the agent on-hand. As a precaution, the commander immediately locked down the installation and began efforts to identify the cause of the discrepancy.

Inventories showed a discrepancy of less than 1 ml (less than one-fourth of a teaspoon) of VX "nerve agent."

The vial with 1 ml was located at 3 a.m. All personnel are uninjured and safe. The public is safe as well.

VX is an amber colored, odorless, tasteless oily liquid that does not evaporate easily unless temperatures are high. It evaporates very slowly, almost like motor oil. People can be exposed through skin contact (the most toxic way), eye contact or inhalation. It affects the body's ability to carry messages through the nerves."

The release also said "the agent in question has been accounted for and no one was ever in any danger."

Of couse, all of it's probably a lie. I trust nothing a TV station owned by THE CHURCH says. I only check their weather report because the Salt Lake Tribune's weather report is always wrong.

You know, this incident reminds me of a novel -"The Stand."

Thanks for the good info, Belgium. I was really hoping the Tunisian thingy was a legit uprising that would spread to Egypt, The Wild Kingdom and elsewhere which in turn would/might fuck with the Murikan Empire. No such luck, eh?

Crap.

Yeah Murph, heard about the Dugway incident when I was looking for a freak'in acurate weather report. The Salt Lake Tribune is ALWAYS wrong. Here's an update:

Discrepancy over nerve agent prompted Dugway lockdown
January 27th, 2011 @ 12:09pm
By ksl.com
DUGWAY -- A missing vial of nerve agent was responsible for the 12-hour lockdown at Dugway Proving Ground that started Wednesday evening.

Coming up this afternoon
Dugway officials have planned a press conference for 1 p.m. Thursday. Check back here for any new details the release later this afternoon. The U.S. Army released a statement Thursday saying that one milliliter, or less than 1/4 teaspoon, of the nerve agent VX was missing during an inventory check. The vial came up missing during a routine inventory of sensitive material in the chemical laboratory, according to the Dugway statement.

The vial was found about 3 a.m.

"No one was ever in danger," the Army said in a statement.

There was no immediate word on where the vial was found or how it became missing.

There were unconfirmed reports that nearly 1,000 employees were stranded at the base from about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday until 4 a.m. Thursday, some people being forced to stay in their cars the entire time, as officials searched for the missing vial.

"In this instance no one has been harmed, no one's injured. Everyone is safe and that's one of our goals here." -Paula Thomas"I believe most of them spent the night in buildings, in their office buildings or other buildings. There might have been some who spent the night in their car," said Dugway spokeswoman Paula Thomas.

"We did have one lady that it was time for her to deliver her baby," Thomas added. "So they took an ambulance to I-80 and LifeFlighted her to the hospital."

Dugway provided its people with food during that time.

VX is described as an odorless, tasteless oily liquid that evaporates slowly. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, "VX is the most potent of all nerve agents."

"It is possible that any visible VX liquid contact on the skin, unless washed off immediately, would be lethal," according to the CDC's website. "Mild or moderately exposed people usually recover completely. Severely exposed people are not likely to survive."

Yeah, yeah, blah, blah -I don't trust any news organization that's owned the THE CHURCH.

This reminds me of the beginings of a novel I read - "The Stand."

Great post, Belgium. I was hoping this Tunisian thingy was legit and spread to the other Kingdoms/dictatorships in the area that might put a damper to all of this Murikan Empire stuff.
Rats.

Well, maybe hopefully soon, the markets will tank, the BRIC countries drop the dollar and doomage reigns. The good part will be that the Murikan war machine will have to stop killing brown people and dismantle.

This is a keeper. From Wayne Madsen.

"...It was Olmert who personally interceded with New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani to have released from prison five Urban Moving Systems employees, identified by the CIA and FBI agents as Mossad agents. The Israelis were the only suspects arrested anywhere in the United States on 9/11 who were thought to have been involved in the 9/11 attacks.

The two Mossad teams sent regular coded reports on the progress of the 9/11 operation to Tel Aviv via the Israeli embassy in Washington, DC. WMR has learned from a Pentagon source that leading Americans tied to the media effort to pin 9/11 on Arab hijackers, Osama Bin Laden, and the Taliban were present in the Israeli embassy on September 10, 2001, to coordinate their media blitz for the subsequent days and weeks following the attacks. It is more than likely that FBI counter-intelligence agents who conduct surveillance of the Israeli embassy have proof on the presence of the Americans present at the embassy on September 10. Some of the Americans are well-known to U.S. cable news television audiences..."

With all of this unrest and rioting of late in Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt, Yemen, etc it strikes me as a case of country after country where the basic populations have been beset by the elites in each country for so long with various injustices that whatever straw that broke the camels back in Tunisia caused the boiling over of long contained and suppressed anger of the masses to in domino affect roll across the region.

Its like a switch was flipped in the populations and once it gets rolling it gathers momentum, the tipping point was finally reached.

If as Belgium implies perhaps the CIA might have something to do with instigating the initial Tunisian blow up I don't see how they could really think that they could control the kind of inflamed circumstances that this could unleash in the countries of that region to some pre-planned advantage. I could see that it easily has the potential to go in directions that they never intended it to go, and thats even if the CIA had anything to do with it in the first place.

Well I'd say its a sign of the kind of chaotic future we are headed for as the world situation degrades.

RP, we are NOT in the deepest depression this country has ever seen. Not yet. Not by a long shot. At this point in the 30s we had people starving in large numbers because there were too many for the bread lines to feed. Yes, food stamps are the modern equivalent of bread lines, but they are still working and aren't being overwhelmed. Yet. When the food stamps start being cut off, when shantytowns have spread across the nation, when there are reports of starvation, when there is massive civil unrest, THEN we will be in the middle of a major depression.

My adopted grandmother lived through the thirties as an adult. She's told me about those days -what really happened, not the official version. Even she says we are going back there. We haven't seen anything yet.

FA, the small amounts of fluoride in coffee, tea, and so forth are natural and harmless. It was first detected in those substances over a century ago, so it's not a modern injection. Your body can handle small amounts of fluoride, just like it can handle small amounts of other substances that are toxic in large amounts, its just when it's added to water, toothpaste, and everything else that it becomes a problem.

Did anyone see the story a few weeks ago about how almost 30% of U.S. adolescents have fluoridosis?

Just before 2PM on CNN they came up with a new headline, " The protest and crackdown in Egypt ", then it was some minutes after that when Mubarak spoke and said he wasn't leaving. He said that he would protect Egypt from the " terrorist " causing the present unrest. So is CNN telegraphing a " crackdown " from the military that will be coming soon? And Mubarak says he will disolve the government ( of course not including himself ). A reshuffling of the deck is all that would be, with the main culprit of oppression left still in charge. I hope the Egyptian people follow through and get rid of their corrupt government, all of it.

HSW maybe that is where the Gulf Stream is going now? I read ages ago that re Greenland and the disappearing glaciers, the ice does not need to completely melt but just enough for the melt water to reach bedrock and then the glacier floats off the underlying rock. I don’t know if this is true but it sounds plausible.

Remember that Transparency International said that Tunisia was the least corrupt state in Africa and they went first. I don’t know how corrupt Egypt is compared to the others; do you know where they stand? Also if Tunisia was the least corrupt country then Morocco must be more corrupt than they were but their people are calm and contented although relatively poor. Could it be because their administration has strong Jewish ties?

Belgium regarding Egypt and the corruption of its leader Mubarak, the people who have lived under his dictatorial US supported rule for 30 years clearly see him as a vile leader that they want gone. Can those many thousands upon thousands of people be so misconceived about the nature of this man as it relates to their lives and their wellbeing? I don't think so.

Mubarak has used the vast majority of the 1.3 Billion dollars in yearly aid to buy military implements and manpower with which he has controlled the larger population. Of course the US wants to see him stay in power since he does their bidding, bolstering support for Isreal, providing another ally in the region, etc.

Regarding Tunisia, if there was not actual corrupt practices going on by their ruling officials adversly affecting the masses then why would so many people there be so angry and move to oust their leaders? I think all of this unrest thats occuring lately is deriving from real suffering the affected masses are feeling about the state of their lives.

I do think the practices related to NVR you highlighted do go on, but I don't get the sense that these recent large scale uprisings have much if anything to do with any outside manipulations of these populations. At least that the way it looks to me IMHO.

And Belgium regarding that warmer Arctic current, I didn't get from the article that they were referencing the Gulf Stream which I don't think actually flows into the Arctic region but rather over towards Europe then on south from there. I think this article was referring to another large scale current flow that goes into the Arctic area.

And the melt water moving glaciers you wrote of relates to on land large scale ice structures where increasing melt water is creating more runoff which enters down under the Glacier and ice sheets through crevasses which lubricates the boundery between the ice and rock causing the ice to advance towards the sea more quickly. At least thats what it sounds like you are referring to.

The warmer current entering the Arctic as the article I gave the link for spoke of is expected to affect the floating ice cap there causing it to eventually melt off completely in the summer months. The time scale as to just when this may occur is still be debated.

.....However, the domino-like effect of the global revolution that has accelerated in recent weeks seems to be born out of a genuine, grass roots, organic yearning for real freedom, and an end to dictatorial regimes that the United States and the banking elite have helped to prop up....

.....In the case of Egypt, Yemen and Tunisia, all three regimes have enjoyed the multi-decade support of the US military-industrial complex. All three were fully compliant vassal states for the new world order. There was no need for contrived or staged “color revolutions” to be prompted by the global elite in these countries.....

quote: Hillary Clinton is on the MSM today talking about how the US is such a great defender of Decmocratic freedoms across the world.

part one...

in defending that freedom and democracy the west claims to be the leader of the world in the war on terror. and they tell its own peoples, hey, to keep you safe you're going to have to give up some of those very freedoms. this is exactly what ben ali told his people. does the end justify the means? good or bad, its still a form of repression. ironically, this is exactly what the subservives used to fire up the people to take bin ali down. it makes sense that even happy, well fed people don't like basic freedoms repressed and this makes them extreemly vulnerable to being used by subservive forces. but really, when we dig even deeper into tunesia we have to question that even. we have to question that the whole thing is one big ugly charade.

happy? you bet. the people wanted better standards of living, education for their children, opportunities for themselves, peace and security and the right to worship in their own way without fear or intimidation. all that was written down in a national pact signed in '88. what the people wanted, the people got. as noted in sats 10 point list tunesia was a very successful country and one would think civil unrest would be the farthest thing from any citizin's mind and the last thing they'd be wont to do is overthrow the guy who brought them all this good forturne. these are the same happy people who re-elcected him in 09 with an 80% majority. 2 out of his 3 opponents openly supported ben ali.

and what was the world being told? that ben ali and company were corrupt along with implications they were supporting islamic extreemism. this in face of sats point #2 that tunesia was the least corrupt of any african nation and the fact that they'd thrown the extreemists out.

it should be clear by now; hillary et al are saying one thing and doing the opposite!! they know excatly what the cia is up to. they support it, they fund it with both white and black budgets. and they cover it up claiming defense of democracy. bullshit! the trojans had nothing over on this evil crowd. here's a slant we'll never hear from MSM for the truth would be more than most, who btw would say they share those same wants and needs, could stand...

traditional islam has had a high tollerance for other faiths for centuries. contrasting this one of the main weapons of islamic extreemism is to sow the seeds of hatred for other religions. so, to counter that bin ali and his policies ran the extreemists out of the country. and in short order as reported in these 2 articles...

http://www.allbusiness.com/africa/1006537-1.html

http://www.aina.org/news/20070516103920.htm

(aangirfan's jan 18th entry touches on this as well.)

point is the solution to the terrorist problem and the hijacking of the country's traditional islam by islamic jihadists was also the solution to the country's social, ecomonic, human rights, and poor standard of living problems. unforturately it was not the solution to disarming the behind the scenes promoters of the jihadists. the very ones the so-called war on terror is 'sposed to be aimed at. its aimed all right. but the aim is to promote.

hardly a day goes by that a terrorsit attack happens somewhere in the world and the MSM is all over it. most days there are multiple attacks. most of them happen in the arab countries. mano a mano. its been going on for years.

Anonymous said...

part 2..

so it was in tunisia. when bin ali came to power he turned tunisa into a model for what to do about islamic extreemism and terrorism. extreem offensives demand extreem defensives. according to versi, "... Ben Ali stressed, as soon as he came into office, that the battle against terrorism would not be won simply by arresting and trying terrorists. It would only be won when conditions conducive to the growth of fundamentalism no longer existed."

and what are those conditions? he believed that: "Unless the breeding grounds of extremism were dealt with terrorism could never be wiped away. To defeat terrorism, the whole social, political and economic structures would have to be changed. The war on terrorism would also be a war on poverty and need, a war on ignorance, a war on despondency and marginalisation, a war on disease, a war on inequality and a war on oppression. "

its amazing what was done toward achieving those goals in 20 years. when ben ali came to power tunisia had suffered from years of poverty, ignorance and so on and was under direct attack by islamic fundamentalism. the very religion of its own majority population.

versi... "As early as 1994, President Ben Ali had warned Western countries of the serious dangers of allowing fundamentalist terrorists to exploit the right of political asylum."

versi quoting ali... "Confronted by those who use religion to seize power by force," he told the (french) newspaper (Le Figaro), "and use violence to reach their ends, we have had recourse to a multi-dimensional policy: starting at the level of schools and going on to a wider policy which combines economic and social action at the level of the country's development."

versi... "He stressed that the goals of the fundamentalists were political and had nothing to do with religion - least of all Islam which is a religion of peace and tolerance and expressly forbids the taking of innocent lives for any reason. "The fact that the fundamentalists use violence and murder shows that their motivation is not religious but exclusively political," he said.
But he warned that fundamentalism had become a problem for the West whose countries "serve as rear bases for fundamentalist terrorists". Known terrorists, claiming human rights abuses and exploiting the political asylum system in the West, were setting up multi-national networks in order to destabilise legitimate governments in the Muslim world.

He gave a dear and, as events turned out, prophetic warning"Now fundamentalism is your problem," he said. "I mean that of Paris, London and Washington. France, Great Britain and the United States are being used as a safe haven by fundamentalist terrorists; in the name of freedom and democracy, asylum is granted to the enemies of that very freedom and democracy." "

all these are things ben ali was saying back in the 90's! on sept 11, 2001... well, we all know what happened as we, subsequently, listened to bushco tell us there was no warning. little has changed with the new administration. which has gotta leave us to highly suspect: are our leaders on behalf of we as a country presenting one thing and doing the opposite? or did we look in the mirror and fall in love with ourselves? WTF?? i think its BOTH!!

one thing is obvious, the best we get from our leaders toward any kind of "war on poverty and need, a war on ignorance, a war on despondency and marginalisation, a war on disease, a war on inequality and a war on oppression" is lip service. i can jerk my own wanker thank you very much. but worse, the majority of US peoples on both sides of the political aisle, each ate up with their own brand of self-proclaimed moral justice, make the possible impossible.

But what happens if the regime in Egypt falls and the military is in disarray?

Will Israel take the Suez? Start irrigating the Sinai with Nile River water?

Rockpicker, you must think I am in bed with those schoolies from Scotland but they seem to have a habit of providing possible answers to the questions we are about to ask ;-) Re what happens to the Nile water:

"He stressed that the goals of the fundamentalists were political and had nothing to do with religion - least of all Islam which is a religion of peace and tolerance and expressly forbids the taking of innocent lives for any reason."

hummmm... its sunday... good day to preach about religion. when i read that line i couldn't help but think; hey, kinda like the US today except its under attack by chirstian extreemists in bed with neo con hawks and psychopathic killers. gettin harder and harder to see where christian fundamentalism leaves off and the republican party begins these days. and the guilt ridden dems ain't much better! between them and amnesty international they'd give political asylum to satin! which is really what guilt, the hawks, psychopathic killers, and religous extreemisn of any stripe is all about. ...p

ps to b... the aangirfan hammer is greatly appreciated. them rabbits over there musta be spendin a lotta time down the hole. some of the best back story reporting i've seen in a long time. so what's the story behind the name? and who are they?

pps... and thx for the silber blog link too. wasn't aware of him. checked out his series on miller. he's got her nailed: "Alice Miller is the most profoundly courageous writer in the world today to my knowledge." he wrote that entry in 05. it begs correction now. sadly, miller died a year ago. she will write no more. but she left behind a body of work that is earth shattering. she was praised by academia for her theories but when it came to putting them into practice she has been met with fierce resistance. the very reasons behind that resistance are woven throughout her work and this alone serves to validate her theories.

pps... yeh, that was me

Huffington Post says that most of the US has been denied access to Al Jazera English. I'm still getting it - what about you guys?

Belgium;

Not me man, I don't chaste no ass persians. Hell, I'm totally confused. Wikileaks says the US has planned Mubarak's demise for three years. Tarpley says, if the regime keeps the internet down, the resistance might fail. Stands to reason those with much to gain from destabilization have contingency plans ready in the wings. Just trying to second guess what those plans might include.

I thought that site you posted was great, like P, one of the most informative sites I've seen.

Revolutions may indeed unfold in this country if things don't get better but for me, it's just as easy and likely to believe that were 2 radical technologies to emerge that wiped out concerns about global warming and alternate energy sources, the potential of these would create the same distress to foment violent revolution.

The greatest mysteries are so profoundly concealed, the best we can do is have faith or guess because
there're just not that many Richard Feynmans in the world so in the meantime these are problems just waiting for clever solutions. It's a waiting game. Everything is infinite in all directions.
