PONDERINGS ON THIS AND THAT

The Rabbit skin quilt is approaching completion.

from Murph

With Freeacre on a birthday trip to the coast with her son, the ambience is a bit quieter around here right now, which leads to doing some introspection and thinking about a new post.

As I run through the morning’s list of news, opinions and commentaries, I typically muse that a particular article or news item would make a good post article, and then invariably I come on a commentary or analysis that goes into it in more detail, better than I could, and another post idea goes down the drain.

Which led me this morning to examine how most blogs are set up. Since few blogs have contributors that are out doing investigation reporting or are insiders to the mechanizations of the elites, bloggers write about what they read or hear about, and what they are experiencing or observing. That means that a lot of blogs are using second hand, third hand or even fourth hand information as the subject material. Which means that the distinctions between most blog sites rests on the writing style and validity of the non first hand information, and the inclusion or omission of personal experience. Many blogs are almost exclusively first hand experience and often of a very personal nature and some of them approach the content of social networking sites.

Utmost in the minds of most people is concern about the financial/economic situation in the world and the U.S. in particular. Because very few people are on the inside of this circumstance, most people are simply going to have to rely on what others say on the subject. Depending on the individual’s belief system, preferences on political/financial ideology, this will of course determine just what set of information they accept as being part of reality. I sometimes wade through government releases of financial information, which I find to be largely incomprehensible, and read commentaries on those releases, supposedly by people that understand that kind of data and what it portends. Two of the writers on this subject I follow on a daily basis is George Ure at Urban Survival and Charles Smith at Of Two Minds. According to both writers most of the economic information put out by the government’s three letter agencies is half truths, massaged and spun data, and outright lies. It also appears to me that most of the economic writers with any reputation at all largely agree with this assessment. Although, I do pick up on sites that take a totally different perspective on the situation. They appear to be sites that are supportive of the business as usual paradigm and support a “everything is just fine” and “quit being a negative loser” attitude.

My inbox for email is overrun by ads and claims of means for making a lot of money. This does not include the horrendous amount of Cialis and other sexual aids ads per day and the obvious scams. The scam email has tapered off a bit, I only get around two per day now. Seemingly the only way I can eliminate all this crap stuff is by making a new email address. My email junk filter works ok, but I am getting this kind of crap in excess of 50 per day. If it wasn’t for the fact that it would be a real mess to change email address I would do it tomorrow. Freeacre and I have over 200 valid addresses that we keep in contact with. It would be a nightmare. I have received email address changes and if I don’t take care of it right away, they seems to slip off into some kind of limbo on the computer and then the hassle begins of reestablishing contact. Freeacres son, who has some expertise in the workings of computer, insists that a portal email account is the answer, like Yahoo or G mail. Frankly, when the scammers and ads people pick up on a new address, I don’t see that as helping much. You just have another account with all the junk stuff coming in to deal with. Plus, I have a real issue with privacy on the portal email accounts. And, if I changed over to one of them, I would still have the problem of changing addresses. And then I have the problem of what to do about ads that I want to get if I get reckless with the spam filter or changing address. What a conundrum.

Perusing through the news sites and commentaries concerning the Egyptian and other countries open street rebellion, I come on various sites that intimate that the U.S. government is complicit in all of them for various reasons. Of course this is in direct contradiction that these rebellions are strictly grass root motivated and a desire for democracy on the part of the population. Knowing full well that the U.S. is very much into manipulating governments and populations to the empire’s advantage, the U.S. instigating of such uprisings or directing them in some particular direction is not all that “far out” a supposition.

On the home front, our dog Brie hasn’t had anymore seizures since the horrific night on the first of this month. We had to increase her dosage of Phenobarb and I don’t like it. She does exhibit a shift in personality and she has gained way too much weight, 25%+ over her pre seizure weight. (sighing). We have to accept the possibility that she may not be able to survive a whole lot longer, or that it becomes an untenable life for her. She is exhibiting a somewhat depressed joy of life and play that was her trademark and a propensity to sleep much more.

Since we have had an extended amount of more moderate weather, the chickens have started laying again. For about 2 months there we were only getting one or two eggs a day for 15 hens, although several of them were in winter molt. I was starting to think in terms of eliminating most of the flock and starting over. We shall see. It’s hard for us to think of doing in Henny Penny, our oldest hen. She is quite the character, I guess coming to that point by sheer age itself. She is a bit of a pet after all, or at least as much as a bird brain can be a companion. Our rooster continues to be a feathered gentleman with us instead of a feathered rabid attack animal. (Thank goodness).

It’s getting closer to spring again, about time to start pots in the house in preparation for the spring planting. Some of the weather predictions are saying another cold wet spring and very hot summer. Creates lots of problems for growing food. Guess it’s where you are located. Considering we can have 30 degree nights here any day of the summer, we want to make better preps this year for the garden. What a challenge.

We conducted a 2 night viewing of Linda Runyon’s master class on wild food survival at the Grange. Not attended heavily but a success anyway was the feedback we got. This woman makes the departed Eule Gibbons of the 60’s and 70’s look a bit lame. She has lived over a lot of different areas of the U.S. and fed her family mostly off the natural environment. Interesting lady and the film is packed with actual useful information about eating off the wild foods and how to stock them up. In May, we have a big day of presentations about 80 miles away by the CLDS (Mormons) on how to preserve and stock food. Nothing like learning from the masters of some skill.

Until I have another rant on the daily atrocities around us, have a good day.

Greetings from hippyland here on the Oregon coast! I am stuck in an Irish pub with free wifi, having to deal with baked brie, slices of apple with mango chutney, Irish coffee, and the nicest waitress of all time. Seems The Bean locked the keys in the ignition of the car. So, I'll just have to sit here listening to Bob Dylan and surfing the net. Ha! Could be a lot worse~ Talk about a change in consciousness - the people here say, "Have a magical day", and" Art Saves Lives". Oh - looks like the triple A guy is here to break into the car. Better go. Anyway, just checking in. Love it here.
Keep an eye on te Murph man for me. Love you guys.

murph, freeacre, I'm so sorry to hear about Brie. What a difficult thing to go through. My beloved hound once ate some snail bait my mother-in-law put in her yard, and had to be rushed to the emergency vet's at midnight. That was the longest night of my life. I am sending you all healing and peace.

Lucky you, fa. The Oregon Coast is one of my favorite places on the planet. When I used to live in Portland, I'd go to the coast as often as I could.

Hey, here's a little something ya'll might like -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVJqT_JSSMw

And so, after watching this video, I thought it'd be cool to get one of these and learn how to play since I'm always drumming around the house to my wife's dismay. But after some research, I found out that these things are no where to be found and if you did find one, they are totally freak'in expensive.

So, after more research, I found out I can make one for less than 50 bucks.

Cool. So. I got a project till the snow stops falling in this place.

Thanks, Randy. That hang drum music is so nice. It looks liken they are playing a Webber BBQ stove! I'd like one, too. Good luck on making one.

Man, I do love this coast. I'm in a place that has a panoramic view of the ocean, only stone's throw away. Can see seals in the water. My son is out attempting to catch some crabs for dinner. Hope he has good luck!

Murph, please post a comment to let me know you are okay. I have not been able to connect with you.

I was over at our public library today using their wireless high speed and as you can see in the comments I was able to post here using my Blogger ID. Well tonight I am back home useing our amazingly slow phone modem Turtle Speed and its a no go using the Blogger ID to post. again! I downloaded the Internet Explorer 8 at the library since our browser was outdated and I thought that maybe that might have solved the Blogger ID problem. Oh well, back to Anonymous Status :-)

RP I read that link regarding Dr Morner's claim that sea level is not rising. At one site I find this, " Mörner's claim that sea levels are not rising has been criticised for ignoring correctly calibrated satellite altimeter records, all of which show that sea levels are rising ", and here is another article for some more insight on Morner:

http://scienceblogs.com/deltoid/2009/11/the_australians_war_on_science_42.php

The Australian's War on Science 41

.....Morner is treated like something of a joke among most oceanographers and quaternary scientists......

And look in the comments section of this article for info on Morner's tilted graph at one of his presentations. It looks like there is a link there where you can view this tilted graph. A graph that has an upward trend can look level if you tilt it downward :-)

The oceans arn't rising that fast and its not like you ( RP ) or I are going to get swamped anytime soon. We are at 3000 feet elevation here in the high desert and you are probably higher I would guess. If the sea does rise significantly of course the coastal cities will be affected dramatically in many areas.

We will just have to keep watch of the developments with the sea level and melting world ice structures to ascertain if there is actually a solid visible trend, one way or another.

Hey Freeacre there is a hotsprings apparently on the Umpqua River I think east of Roseburg, Oregon some distance that a hotspring enthusiast friend of mine just sent me a report with pictures about. He has been to very many hotsprings and he said Umpqua Hotsprings was now in his top 5 favorite. I used to live about 4 miles from the Umpqua River near Glide in Oregon, which is about 20 miles east of Roseburg.

The highway going up the canyon of the Umpqua east of Roseburg is rated as a scenic highway. If its not too far out of the way on your return trip from the coast it may be worth checking out both the beautiful drive along the Umpqua and those hotsprings. You can most likely just Google Umpqua Hotsprings to find out more details about it and to see photos too. The Oregon Coast is just awesome and is such a fine place to visit :-)

First off, dealing with the post, Happy belated Birthday Freeacre, I hope it was a good one. Murph said that the quilt was approaching completion and I guess it is and what a super thing it is too, so glad you finally solved the secret of tanning. What I am going to say next is a bit of a downer though. When you first start on such a thing, the square that is in the middle needs eight others to go around it; that’s an 800% increase in work. Now it looks like 7 squares by 8 = 56. To do another full lap around the outside you are going to need 9 x 10 = 90 – 56 = 34 which is 60% increase on what has gone before. Although the proportion is decreasing the workload is increasing by quite a bit. I am not sure what the point is that I am making here except that it is an awful lot of rabbit pie to eat. Thoughtful of the rabbits to have nice square hides though.

On the subject of blogs, I have often wondered how much of it is original thought and how easy it is to slip in a load of disinformation onto the merry go round. Where I would take issue is that all of your writings must be original thought. As long as due credit is given to your source, the subject matter will be new to those who have not read the original. I believe Cyclone had in inside track to the decision makers but that is not something that is open to many of us.

I have thought of changing one of my e mail addresses too but for me it is such a daunting ass to do in technical Dutch so I have left it alone, for now.

I am also so pleased that Brie is on the mend. I know from experience that it is better to have the 80% - 90% that is left over than to loose everything altogether.

Well Hosni has gone. Even if he saw it coming he didn’t get enough “I’m sorries” in early enough. It sure beats me why leaders who see the threat coming don’t go on television and say “This is how it really is”. Why don’t they tell the people that they are being duped into destabilising their country for somebody else’s advantage? Why not say that food prices have rocketed in order to line the pockets of those in Wall Street and that whoever follows them as leader of their particular country will face the same insoluble problems? Mubarak asked for a further six months to organise fair elections after which he would stand down. I believe this was to destabilise the Muslim Brotherhood (Read CIA). The fact that he had not done this before demonstrates that he was not a true dictator. There again, I guess that hungry people are not coolly logical people, sigh.

Aho.

Greetings, Everybody, I'm baaack! Had a great time with the Bean on the coast. I loved it!

Ha! You are right, Belgium. Every row added was much larger than the last. We aren't adding any more hides. Just may do some hand sewing and put on a satin sheet for the backing. We did not eat all those rabbits, BTW. We bought about half of them from neighbors who also raise rabbits and kept the hides. Now I'm planning to make little moccasins for my granddaughter, who will be two.
Couldn't figure out what the comet trajectory thing was saying, Rockpicker. Looks like it will miss the earth but hit Mercury?? We had a very near miss from an asteroid last Wednesday. I expect that things will liven up as we get closer to the galactic center where many of the "lumps" are. Also, if Nibiru is approaching, it will attract more of them as well. ..
Well, heck. No sense in putting off whatever it is that you really want to do before you exit this life. That's probably good whether any, all, or none of this stuff happens anyway. Andre Heath continues to update his chronicle of earth changes and fish, bird and animal die-offs in his column on the left on thealienproject. he has info on Elenin, too.
Anyway, it's good to be back.

Good points here about Egypt and its travails:

http://www.chrismartenson.com/blog/egypts-warning-are-you-listening/52575

Egypt's Warning: Are You Listening?

......Egypt simply reminds us that anything that is unsustainable will someday change. It is an emblem for the world......

Well the oppressive Dictator Mubarak is gone with his untold riches. Joe Biden didn't think he was a Dictator ( figures ) but what answer do you think you would get asking the Egyptian Freedom Fighters? Mubarak ruthlessly obliterated any groups that would attempt to challenge his authority over his 30 years of dominating Egypt, and by his own words recently he considered himself the Father of Egypt, and its citizens as his children. In other words, he is the Big Guy who directs what happens, the Pharoh, the Decider for life if he had it his way.

As far as the US or any other western powers being the ones orchestrating all of these uprising towards some unseen end, I'm not buying that line. Clearly these parties ( the western powers and Isreal too ) are now in overdrive trying to maneuver events toward something less damaging and threatening than it is, but make no mistake, these events are contrary to what they would really like to be happening in the middle east and Northern Africa. You now have all of the old goons ( like Negroponte ) and ex-generals coming out of the woodwork to try and spin the message in their Orwellian ways.

I think the above article by Chris Martenson speaks to the underlying tensions of unsustainability and societal over reach that see complex systems finally reach their breaking points. With worldwide crisis building for food, water, energy and many other of the main supports for our modern societies Egyptian style unrest will continue to unfold elsewhere in the world as declining resource limits start grinding down any semblance of societal stability.

I am heartened to see that these Egyptians who are seeking some better state of affairs, a more fair system for themselves have one a victory in removing Mubarak from power. But I think they mostly do not realize that beyond oppressive leaders lies the greater reality that their troubles with rising food prices, unemployment, etc are part of a greater trend of worldwide resource exhaustion bringing its consequent increasing dis-function to the social fabric. Nothing has changed in that regard.

For now Egypt is controlled by the Eygptian Military, a complex built up by Mubarak and largely funded by US funds, with its various leaders no more interested I think in truth in the basic well being of the lower classes than Mubarak was. Unless and until the Egyptian military can somehow be tamed I don't see how these many protesting Egyptain's are going to create any change that truly represents a democratic state of affairs.

However, they are the many, and the oppressers are few and Egyptians have shaken off their fear of these thugs for the moment. I truly hope their progress continues.

America’s Strategic Repression of the ‘Arab Awakening’

North Africa and the Global Political Awakening

.....The situation is a dangerous and difficult one for the protesters, just as the struggle for freedom and democracy is and has always been. There is a large constituency which have an interest in preventing the emergence of a populist democracy, including many of the pro-democracy organizations and opposition leaders themselves, the great nations of the world – East and West, the World Bank and IMF, international corporations and banks, neighboring Arab regimes, Israel, and of course, America. It is a monumental challenge, but it would be a great disservice to cast aside the protests as controlled and totally co-opted. If that were the case, they would have ceased with the formation of transition and unity governments, which of course they have not. While the outcome is ultimately unknown, what is clear is that a spark has been lit in the Arab world as the ‘Global Political Awakening’ marches on, and this will be a very difficult flame to control......

Yep, a lot of parties have no interest in seeing any true rule by " the people " being realized in all of these uprisings, even as much as this is the wished for objective of most of these protesters.

Glad you're back, sis. Oldensoul and I sent you a little something yesterday.

The comet thingy is significant. If you opened it and played with the diagram, you must have noticed how it's built to allow the viewer to figure the ephemeris, (new word for me too) or trajectory of the moving bodies. Move it to the spring equinox, March 21, and notice where Earth is in relation to the sun and the comet. Almost a straight line through all three, with Earth in the middle. Now, jump ahead 6 months, to the autumnal equinox of late Sept., and slowly move forward to late Oct. Near miss, if their math is right. Looks like we'll pass through the tail, at the very least.

And what tectonic stresses might we expect, with the sun pulling on one side and the comet pulling on the other? I still haven't heard anyone say how big this thing is, but Carl Johan Calleman, who has interpreted the Mayan calendar stone, claims the 2012 date is off by several months, and that the real long count end date is Oct. 28, 2011. He's been saying that for years.

First let me say Wow! What a quilt, murph! I love it. That's the coolest quilt I've ever seen.

Second, a belated Happy Birthday to you, FA! I'm glad it was a good one, and that you got to spend time with your son and take a great trip.

About the situation in Egypt, I don't buy it that the U.S. was behind the uprisings and such. Why? What would we have gained from them? WE were the ones who put Mumbarak in charge; we were the ones who benefited most from his autocratic regime; we were the ones most invested in keeping him in power.

Until -and here is the important part -that things became so unstable there towards the end it became obvious that Egypt was going to be more unstable with him there than with him gone. That's bad for business, mate, especially when Egypt is in such an important position. The Suez Canal is one of the most strategically important sites in the world.

I think when this happened, we shifted allegiances and started leaning on him to depart and put the power in the hands of his VP. Remember last Thursday, before his speech, when 'U.S. Officials' were saying he would resign? Why would they say that unless they were certain? Then, when he didn't resign, I'd bet he received a phone call that mentioned something about his advanced age and wouldn't it be a shame if he had a heart attack or a stroke?

The next day he's gone, the VP and the military are in charge, Egypt is stable again, and I'm very much afraid it's going to be a case of 'Meet the new boss...same as the old boss.'

RAS said...

Regarding the comet, unless it passes closer than the moon (significantly closer) than the additional tectonic stress shouldn't be enough to cause any problems. A comet just doesn't have enough mass, relatively, to do much.

Unless it hits, and that's a whole different story.

I'm seriously fighting depression. I finally found another part-time job, to supplement (not replace) my current part-time job, and it sucks. It sucks so bad I am completely miserable even though I'm still in training for it. They may not keep me; not everyone will pass all the tests they've devised and let me just say I was never a cheerleader for a reason.
I'm at the end of my rope and I don't know what to do. We can barely make it here. We can't go live on our land because there's nothing there and we can't afford to put anything there. I can't get a job. My degrees are worthless now and my credits bad. I've put in literally hundreds of applications. And what do I get? Finally, a job where I have to take a drug test by holding a swab in my mouth for three minutes and try not to throw up, can't get any time off, and have to become a cheerleading propagandist for something I don't believe in.

I can't even get hired to flip burgers or wait tables or stock shelves; believe me, I've tried. If I quit this job, K is going to be really, really mad at me. As for my business, I haven't made enough at that this month to buy a tank of gas.

Hotspringswizard said...

RAS, Good points you have made about your considerations of what is occurring in Egypt. " Meet the new boss...same as the old boss ", yeah, that is a definite possibility. The military in Egypt is entrenched and powerful and I don't see them giving up their position of control willingly.

Sorry to hear about your dis-illusioned state of mind. Difficult times these are. The realities you speak of regarding your attempts to find employment are par for the course when it comes to so many folks I speak to in my area too. But if you watch CNN's " money matters " Sunday show, the economic recovery is well underway, its just that the middle class or anyone else below the elite classes has just not realized it yet. So much lies spewed on the MSM, its just disgusting.

Unfortunately as we know things will be going from bad to worse which will translate into increasing struggles to get by for all of us. Where is it that you live RAS, and is your land near you?

Perhaps with the IMF calling for replacement of the dollar as the world's reserve currecy, and serious societal calamity, our skewed monetary system will be replaced with some form of more equitable system of social credit, where a person's value to his or her community will be assigned an intrinsic worth. Most primitive cultures faced with survival sense the reasonableness of this system.

I don't think that guy who is calling Elenin the same thing as Nibiru has it right. Lots of conflicting information from different sites. George Ure's Peoplenomics report this weekend said that this sunspot cycle is a very low one - maybe like the minimums that led to much cooler than normal weather that happened a few hundred years ago when they had "no summer." Guess all we can do is stay tuned... and maybe put together some sort of cold cases and greenhouses. Meanwhile, Hot Springs has flowers sprouting. Go figure.
Prayers going out for the way to be made straight for everybody's greatest good.

Look at this handy map Google has built to keep track of the die-off.

Freeacre, the mortgage was with Countrywide, but Bank of America was forced to buy CW during the bailout, so now I'm dealing with them.

Our growing beds are nearly all melted off now. Planter on the south side of the house will probably be our first planting area. This is good, passive solar solution many gardeners could avail themselves of. If you have a south-facing wall on your house or outbuilding, you can stack a 4-6 inch thick wall against the wall, say four or five feet tall, with a heavy stone planter a couple of feet tall at the base. Drape a plastic sheet over the entire affair, and voila, you've got yourself a simple, inexpensive season extender. I'm willing to advise anyone interested in building one of these- they work great and are really worth the labor.

High winds of 114 mph destroyed the wind gauge at the Choteau, Mt. airport over the weekend.

Rockpicker, and anyone else with mortgage problems.

Check to see if the transfer of title was done legally. If it wasn't, it is a whole other situation to look into. Problem is, is determining if the transfer was legal or not. Florida courts are jammed up with this issue and has resulted in a pile of lawsuits.

Hey, Guys, if you have an hour, this is the best critique of our nation's situation and, at the end, probably the most inspiring talk I have ever heard.

Happily, Rockpicker, B of A was one of the worst offenders in terms of derivatives of bundled mortgages sold and re-sold that have turned to junk. Demanding that the "note be produced" in response to any foreclosure will oftentimes allow a person to stay in their homes a couple of years without even making a payment.

We have a south wall like that. May just try it. Also, our old refrigerator, laid on its back, filled 1/3 up with dirt, and covered with some storm windows makes a great cold case, too. Grew great radishes in it last year.

rp, p, I'm so sorry to hear you are having problems too. I hope things are turning around soon. RP -have you filed for unemployment?

HSW, our land is about a 90 minute drive from where we live, out in the country. It's in a really cool location. There's just not a lot we can do with it. We've planted a bunch of trees and are going to grow some low-maintenance crops up there this year.
Our bills are current, at least (especially the land payment) but wouldn't be if we hadn't gotten tax returns in this month.
Things are getting really bad out there.

I think these times are going to be requiring a choice. Financial challenges and fear are going to be interpreted as additional reasons why some should harden up and think of themselves first and see most others as threats. On the other hand, while I advocate stocking up for shortages, getting self-sufficient as possible, etc., I also feel that the times are calling for extraordinary kindness, generosity, and inclusiveness. Maybe we are all just where we ought to be and we should just respond to things as kindly as possible. We find ourselves giving away lots of colloidal silver, giving more to the community kitchen, showing people how to make their own laundry detergent for cheap, giving rides to people who need it, etc.

Jeez guys, the World is full of sad stories and I don’t mean that in a flippant tor nasty way, I really feel for you guys because I have first hand experience of what it is like. In 1984 I went into business during the phoney stage of the late 80’s economic war. The big chema I worked for was shedding staff and I jumped before I was pushed. I was qualified as a chemist but worked in industrial furnaces. All started off well, so well in fact that after three years I did a big expansion and more than doubled the ground area of the factory. I borrowed money at 6% and after a year I was paying it back at 15% and in order to save money on wages I was regularly going home for three hours sleep a night just to keep the bank off my back. Then Thatcher closed down nearly half of British steel just before Dutch steel bought the other half and closed that down as well. I could tell you stories of the board of independent steel producers saying ‘Stuff the regular maintenance shutdown periods we will run the furnaces until the roof falls in and then we will think about whether we fix them or shut the factory down”. Wedgewood did a Carnegie of the ceramics industry and after that there wasn’t much left. I will tell you a really weird fact; the thing that drove the nail in the coffin of the British ceramics industry was the Lockerby bomb when American buyers just refused to come over. European trade kept me treading water for a bit then to pay off the debts I built a plant in Belgium but once that was done in 1991 there was nothing left for the UK plant to do. I reinvested in the marriage business and settled down here. Believe it or not, I lost two houses in one year; one to a divorce and the other to the business. I am guessing that you guys that have been in business for themselves, p, rp and Murph that I know about, will agree that the highs are euphoric and the lows are almost suicidal. What a roller coaster ride it is. Now we are what can best be described as getting by reasonably okay – for now. Ah well, life’s a bitch and all that. I am not saying that I wouldn’t have done it but if I knew then what I know now about the reasons behind the “Business cycle” I would have done it differently. Still – mustn’t grumble over spilt milk and all that (ha, ha, - ha, ha, - ha, ha).

BTW here is a cute little vid of how the world really works – in two minutes.

Re Egypt, what do you make of this?

http://snippits-and-slappits.blogspot.com/2011/02/1979-sadat-israel-war-treaty.html

This is supposedly written from Arab street level and I must admit that it has probably been written on the fly because in parts it doesn’t flow very well. What essentially they are arguing is that initially Sadat was the Egyptians’ hero because he gave Israel a bloody nose in 1967 but then under a carrot and stick deal with the USA he appeased the Israeli’s by recognising Israel’s right to exist so that Egypt would not be crushed by the Pentagon. If Egypt received a sweetheart deal from America then Israel was definitely the USA’s mistress in her own flat. The Egyptian citizenry were angry and to quell potential unrest Sadat was assassinated by the Egyptian military. Mubarak came to power but nothing changed for 30 years. Now food prices have gone out of control and the Palestinian issue is becoming mixed up in the general unrest of the population. It seems that the USA (whether it is the CIA or the State Dept is a subtle difference) has worked behind the scenes to bring about apparent change. This time it looks as if the people of Egypt might not swallow the bait and there are cracks appearing in the military and the police. Remember that Mubarak has not fled his country like Ben Ali did; all he has done is to go on holiday. The military has given itself six months to hold fair elections but many of the people can smell a rat. It will sure be interesting to see how this one plays out.

It looks like Libya is on the move, peoples groups have called for a “Day of Rage” tomorrow (Thursday). The initial reason given was that an outspoken lawyer representing families of prisoners killed, allegedly by security forces, 15 years ago was arrested. He was later set free, it was announced but by then the demonstrations against the authoritarian regime had taken on their own momentum. This is the latest ‘wait and see’ incident. The initial report was from Al Jazeera.

How about Lara Logan (CBS chief foreign news correspondent) getting beaten and gang raped during the celebrations after Mubarak's departure. Gee, what a way to celebrate. I might admire the Egyptian's resolve in kicking out Mubarak, but that helps to throw in a reality check on the underlying consciousness there. Logan is not my favorite person, but nobody deserves that.
