The Sorry State of Today's Youth

It's getting colder...

Thank you, ras, for sending us a guest post! Always good to hear your thoughts.

By RAS

This post was going to go in an entirely different direction. I was going to do an in-depth report on the current state of food production, the (sorry) harvest, and projections for the coming year. I may still do that later. However, I got distracted by my recent experiences and decided to do this instead.

I have been working as a substitute teacher. It’s an interesting job, but amounts to little more than glorified babysitting, as I’m not allowed to actually teach anything. I have now subbed in the poor kids schools, where hall lights don’t work and paint is literally flaking off the ceiling, and in the rich kids schools, where a million dollars was spent on the stage alone. I worked at one assignment that was supposed to be high school English. The regular teacher lied so she would have an easier time getting a sub. It turned out she was an in-school detention teacher for the worst high school in the city. The classroom was me, an aide, and a 6’6” 250 lb black dude whose only job was to keep the kids from hurting each other or me. These were 9th graders -15 years old –and they were, for the most part, extremely dangerous. I’ve never had a worse work day in my life.

But it is not just those kids. Everywhere I have gone I have been struck by the sad condition of our youth. Don’t get me wrong, there are some good kids everywhere, but most of our kids suffer from one or both of two conditions: either their parents aren’t around at all and so they pretty much raise themselves, or their parents are around (some) but not enough and so they overindulge the children to make up for not being around enough. The end result is that the vast majority of our children have no manners, no discipline, and no real future.

Let’s step into the life of an average American child for one day and see what it’s like. We’re going to assume that the child is school-age (though the only difference in a lot of cases is that the child goes to daycare all day instead of school). We are also going to assume that the child has two parents, both of whom work full time at 9-5 jobs, make decent money, and really love and care for their kids. In other words, this kid has advantages many kids in this country don’t.

Our child gets up by 6:30 in the morning, because he has to catch the bus at 7. If he’s lucky, he gets a bowl of sweetened cereal at home. If not, he gets to wait until he gets to school and then gets a ‘breakfast stick’ or something similar. He is trapped in school all day, in a prison-in-waiting with 20 to 40 other kids and one teacher. Recess? What’s that? We’ve no time for recess! We have tests to teach to! Lunch is pizza, corn dogs, or hamburgers, generally speaking. All surplus from the USDA.

School lets out at 3, but mom and dad work until at least 5, so our child goes to ‘extended day care’ which is a fancy way of saying daycare. His parents get off at 5 and have to have him picked up by 6, which is when most daycares close. They have to drive there in rush-hour traffic, so it’s a quarter til or later when they pull in. The busy places in town are daycares at 5 minutes before 6 pm every night.

Now what? Well, now its time for dinner. First you have to drive home through rush-hour traffic. Mom and dad are tired; they’ve worked all day. If they’ve really got it together, one might have went home ahead to start dinner or they might have it in the crockpot. But not likely. They’ve got to feed the kids and feed them fast because by now its 6:30, so often it will be a drive-through or something from a box.

Now it’s homework time. The average child has between one and three hours worth of homework every night. This is not an exaggeration; I’ve helped first grader’s do this much homework. Some of it will have been done at daycare, but not all, so mom and dad spend an hour or more helping him with it.

Finally, everything’s done and its time for quality time with the kids, right? No, because its now 8:00 and our imaginary child has to get a bath and get in bed to be up at 6:30 again. This will repeat 5 days a week. Some nights he might have scouts or baseball after daycare. Weekends will be taken up with sports practice, more homework, and staying out of mom and dad’s way so they can take care of all the things they couldn’t do while they were working all week.

Do you see the problems with this? This child has no free time, no time to play or draw or explore. He doesn’t get to really hang out with his parents. His diet is crap. And yet –this is the condition of millions of children in this country. This child has so many advantages: his parents are home at night, they love him, they help him with his homework instead of vegging out in front of the tv, and on and on. And yet look at the state he’s in.

Consider this: 16% of kids are obese and another 15% are at risk of being obese. That number has tripled in the past few decades. Cases of asthma, diabetes, allergies, and autism have skyrocketed. The rate of childhood depression is increasing by 23% a year, and is it any wonder? So many of our kids are now on medication for these kinds of conditions it’s impossible to do an adequate survey.

It doesn’t get any better for the young adults. Over half of young people aged 16-24 are unemployed. The army recently said a third of them are not ‘fit to serve’. In a lot ways that’s a good thing –if you can’t serve, you can’t get blown up in Afghanistan –but in others its not. The army has historically recruited people who are in generally good health and not the brightest. What does it say about us as a society when a third of our young people are too fat to do a sit up and to stupid to know you need to throw a grenade after you pull the pin?

What kind of future do these kids have? Most of them don’t have a snowball’s chance in hell of surviving what is to come. If you’ve never turned off the game console, how are you supposed to figure out how to grow your own food?

I don’t know what to do about this. I don’t have any answers. But I fear for the future of our country.

Fear not

Deep in the darkest forest a flame of infinite love eternally burns.

The children know this hellish nightmare needs to change.

Sooner or later?

The worse it appears to us the closer it gets to the moment of change.

Hi RW,

Welcome, don't remember seeing your handle on comments before.

Interesting formula you have there,
"The worse it appears to us the closer it gets to the moment of change".

I for one hope your right for some change, although consider, it could change for the worse. I would like to think humans can be better than that though, but generally it appears over the centuries that the two legged ones have not been very smart in changes.

For several years I worked in repairing rentals in my college town. Currently I know several dozen adults in their twenties. The majority of this cohort is nihilistic and near suicidal. The focus on binge drinking and distracting entertainments is intense. A number die every year due to simple alcohol intoxication and more die to due to stupid while drunk. I don't think I was ever so intoxicated that I didn't remember that railroad tracks equals train or drunk-driving was russian roulette in disguise.

The worst is sitting in 'circle' with the college graduates and watching them sob because they did everything they were supposed to do, got the degree, stayed mostly clean and still there are no jobs for them. Watching them mourn the broken families they come from is no fun either. I don't want to think about the half of them that dropped out along the way.

Obama was their last hope that playing along was going to work; it's too bad how that is turning out. The militarists, corporados and banksters have him on a short leash. When something gets these kids angry en masse it's going to be torches and pitchforks and they are going to go after adults in business suits. Like Kunstler I expect to see some Wall Street types "necklaced," South African style on the evening news. It's just a matter of when and who.

Pangolin,

Yes indeed, maybe the desperation will finally reach the breaking point. It sure seems like the incidence of berzerker behavior is increasing and in a society as well armed as ours that can be a tad scary.

I would gather that you might appreciate why we moved to a spars population density.

There is probably nothing as tragic going on in our culture than what we are doing to the children of the working class. Well, even the rich ones fast tracked into the "best" daycare and schools are going to be poisoned by the toxic soup they live in and burdened with debt servitude. For one view of their diminished future, one could look back on the chilling movie, "Children of Men."
I can see no way out of this mess, except to either stop having children that we don't have the time or resources to raise properly, or to create alternative schooling in subjects that are sustainable, like permaculture and animal husbandry, cooking, and trade apprenticships, learning how to fix things and small local manufacturing of useful things.
Maybe we'll be going back to the pre-industrial form of education where one would hire a tutor, like in Jane Eyer, to teach the kids in a family. Or, back to one room school houses like they had in the past. My father was educated in a one room school house in Montana, and all the kids in his school qualified for scholarships to go to college. A more modern version might be to set up small schools for each apartment complex in which several children live. With the stay-at-home parents to help with supervision in classes and after school. The days of huge centralized schools set up to bus students in from miles around are just about over. When the gas goes to 4+ dollars a gallon, say "Good-by" to fleets of school buses. And, "good riddance."
As our children become more and more impaired, due to autism, hormone imbalances, asthma, cancer, diabetes, etc. it will become a real obvious aspect of the decline and fall of the empire. Not enough viable ones to pay for social security. Not enough healthy ones to man the military, not enough smart ones to carry on the better aspects of the former culture.
It's going to be real interesting to see how the daycare raised young ones cope when their tweeters and ipods don't work anymore, and these kids who never had a moment to themselves to experience the world and unsupervised play and think time cope with their world suddenly gone silent. Like a Borg suddenly disconnected from the hive. Hopefully, there will still be some older ones who can be a resource for these disoriented little freaks.
What gives me some hope is young ones like ras, despite her childhood of abuse and neglect, has managed to grow herself into an intelligent and compassionate person who, with her com padres, are the uncertain hope of the world.

Hotspringswizard said...

Great points RAS, and its familiar stuff for me having two daughters.

When I get out in the city and see the " youth " for the most part what comes to my mind is how utterly unprepared they will be for the reality of whats coming. They also don't impress me as the type of people I'd want to be around when it all goes bad.

freeacre said...

Let's hope they surprise us. There are still lots of good kids in the world. If we can just get the PTB off their backs. Of course, that was true of us, too. The sons-of-bitches are entrenched.

Red Alert: The Second Wave of The Financial Tsunami

......... The Prelude to the End Game

The US economy will be spiraling out of control in the coming months and will reach critical point by the end of the 1st quarter 2010 and implode by the 2nd quarter.

The massive US$ trillions of dollars stimulus has failed to turn the economy around. The massive blood transfusion may have kept the patient alive, but there are numerous signs of multi-organ failure.

There will be another wave of foreclosures of residential and more importantly commercial properties by end December and early 2010. And the foreclosed properties in 2009 will lead to depressed prices once they come through the pipeline. Home and commercial property values will plunge. Banks’ balance sheets will turn ugly and whatever “record profits” in the last two quarters of 2009 will not cover the additional red ink.

Given the above situation, will the Fed continue to buy mortgage-backed securities to prop up the markets? The Fed has already spent trillions buying Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac mortgages with no potential substitute buyer in sight. Therefore, the Fed’s balance sheet is as toxic as the “too big to fail” banks that it rescued.

In the circumstances, it makes no sense for anyone to assert that the worst is over and that the global economy is on the road to recovery.........

Yup. Cryptogon has a corroborating article from the New York Times about how U.S. payments are coming due and how we can't pay them. And, this from the fringe at Project Camelot:

11/20/09 2:07:05 AM] Kerry Cassidy: we received the following message:

"I do not normally pass on rumors or hearsay, but a very good personal friend's uncle is a Deputy Economic Advisor to Obama as well as a Professior at a prestigious Eastern School. He was called into a private meeting last week with the President. They were told, I quote, the Following: "Between now and Jan 1st 70 more big banks will fail and 70% of Retail Companies will be Bankrupt. The President will allow them to make as much as they can for the Christmas Holidays then Jan 15 there will be a Bank Holiday and their new currency will be issued with a devaluation of 6 to 10 to 1. "I believe this is why they are trying to keep the market and dollar up now with their lies on all the News outlets. Set up the people to steal every last penny they can get. Martial Law cannot be too far behind. Get your money out of banks and into physical Gold and silver. I recommend 60% gold 40% silver, food, foundation seed, gun ammo generators... etc. If you cannot eat, drink it, wear it, live in it, raise food on it, do not invest in it. If you have stocks, bonds 401K IRA, take the penalty and put it in what I just said."

Pangolin said...

Bank balance sheets are more fictional than not anyway. Inventing a new currency won't change the junk-pile that we call an economy. If two guys are sitting on the beach selling buckets of sand to each other does it matter if they use Monopoly money or Game of Life currency?

This afternoon I rode my bike past a few thousand dilapidated; houses, trailers, apartments and retail spaces. Wouldn't it be interesting if converted every one of those to an energy efficient, solid, living or working space? We could use straw panel walls, white metal roofs, solar electricity and water, ground-source heat pumps, rocket stoves and composting toilets galore. Sure it would cost billions of print-as-you-go money but we pay people now to do nothing and call it "unemployment."

Unlike the damn bank bailout people would be able to point to a physical improvement made in their town with their hands. Lots of people would suddenly be freed from crippling utility bills. Greenhouse gas emissions would drop. It could put all those kids to work. We could build little hermitages for the "homeless" and save ourselves from living in an ongoing zombie movie set.

b.t.w.- silver spends just as well as gold and is easier to get and use.

I think Kunstler's Monday bit this week sums things up nicely:

http://kunstler.com/blog/2009/11/courting-convulsion.html

Courting Convulsion

........The main "historic circumstance" mandating these changes goes under the heading of "peak oil." We've come to the end of our ability in this world to increase energy inputs to the global economy. The routine "growth" in industrial activity and production that has been the basis of our financial arrangements for 200-odd years is no longer possible. Offsetting this decline in oil energy "input" with "alt.energy" is a dangerous fantasy because it distracts us from the urgent task of making new arrangements for trade, food production, et cetera - the very things that would provide jobs and social roles for our citizens in the future.

We are seeing a comprehensive failure of leadership in every sector and every level of American life - in politics, business, banking, education, news media, medicine, and the clergy. All are determined to pretend that we can somehow continue the habits and behaviors of the pre peak oil era. They are all unwilling to face reality, and are all engaged in mutually supporting each other's dangerous fantasies.

If we don't attend to the transformation of American life by downscaling our activities and changing the way they are carried out, and re-localizing them, we will see our society disintegrate - and I use the word "dis-integrate" with purposeful precision. Everything will come apart - our political arrangements, our households, our health and well-being.........

And considering Thanksgiving:

http://www.suburbanempire.com/

Be careful what you are thankful for, as it may not be yours at all!

As we all wring our hands about what to do for "our" distressed country while we gather to gorge ourselves on factory farmed food, we need to remember, the land this "nation" was built on, was not "ours" in the first place. This occupation mentality may be part of what led to the ugly suburban landscape we "built" upon the stolen land.

This week is “Thanksgiving” and Suburban Empire.com wants to pause for a moment and reflect on what actually happened when this “Nation” was “Founded”.

"Americans” will gather this Thursday to eat factory farmed processed corn products, accompanied by factory farmed, mistreated turkey. They will generate tons of garbage in the form of packaging and other waste associated with the production of the “food”, that will only be used once and either thrown in to a “recycle” bin or directly into a garbage can and will end up in a landfill either way. The throwers of the trash will give no more thought to the realities of their current occupation, than they will to the garbage they toss. After all, god gave their forefathers permission to be here............... or did “he”?....

This is so true. The US military industrial complex, a gigantic leach sucking inconprehensible amounts of resources and funds out of the US economy. And what do they produce of value? Our " security "? The made up false boogimen they have created like Al Queda have fooled the masses into thinking the huge overblown military complex is needed, is necesary. What a load of crap it all is. :

gadfly | November 23, 2009 11:09 AM

An unmentioned major factor is the global US military empire operating over 1,000 military bases in 130 plus nations and costing over $1 TRILLION annually. Much of it borrowed from China, Japan and the Gulf state soverign wealth funds. As Obama ponders how many new troops to send into the Afghanistan quagmire, reports emerge that it costs a cool $1 million a year to keep a US soldier in the field. So multiply $1 million times 10,000 or 20,000 or 40,000 or whatever additional troops are to be sent and add that to the financial debacle. And that gasoline delivered to the remoteness of Afghanistan costs $300 and up per gallon---who knows how much of that is the cost plus contracts of the military contractor scams. Like the suburban life style, the global military operations are simply unsustainable. Indeed the largest single user of hydrocarbon fuels is the Pentagon with its five ocean navy and all those bases and active wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan. And then add in the mercenary troops of Dyncorp and Xe (Blackwater) and their ilk, often making 5 or 6 times the pay of US ground troops. So the vast effort to secure the US dominance and control of the Middle East reserves of oil and gas to keep the "non-negotiable US lifestyle" going is another collapsing fantasy.

Imagine what even a fraction of military spending could do for building mass rail transit, or infrastructure repair, or any of the rest of the decaying US civil society.......

And Freeacre, thats some interesting info you posted there. I better get to it and transform my " dollars " into something I can really use. I've been thinking lately of putting some cash into purchasing a used high mileage vehicle to replace my wifes current car ( high mileage too ), as it has quite a bit of miles on it. Considering putting other cash into silver. Of course purchasing real practical things that will help provide for your ultimate sustainablility is the best investment in my opinion.

Hey, gang. I've been out of town for a spell. Just got caught up on the last two posts.

Belgium, in answer to your question about Ukraine, take a look at this, from Project Camelot.

24 November 2009

• As promised, here's an expanded report from our Ukraine update yesterday.

We've not communicated directly with our source, who relayed this report via an intermediary who spoke to her in depth on the phone two days ago. The source is a doctor and qualified nutritionist in Kyiv [Kiev] with recent hands-on experience of treating patients who are seriously ill with what the Russians are calling "Mutant Black Lung" - apparently an apt name for a horrific and often fatal set of symptoms.

The problem (corroborated by Dr Henry L Niman and others) is that the H1N1 virus has mutated and the new strain goes straight to the bottom of the lungs where it causes massive bleeding triggered by a cytokine storm. It's the patient's own immune over-reaction that kills them. This is what happened in the second wave in the fall of 1918 (click here and here for historical archives and photos). It's not pneumonia, and it's not pneumonic plague (which is a bacterium, not a virus - but more on that below in the final paragraph of this report). However, it's extremely nasty and can be a very fast killer of anyone affected.

Our source said that she had kept some one seriously ill patient alive with intramuscular injections of Vitamin D: up to 30,000 IU, twice a day. This was a surgeon who had suddenly collapsed in the operating theater 40 minutes after waking up one morning. The surgeon's colleague was not so lucky: he collapsed two hours later, and was dead the next day.

She personally witnessed aircraft spraying something that was slimy and smelly over Lviv. These were NOT chemtrails - it was more like crop-dusting. The altitude was about 1500 feet [500 meters]. They were large aircraft: the windows in her 4-story building shook when one of the planes passed. This was three days before the outbreak there. That report is matched by information she learned in Kyiv, where the same planes were reported and again the outbreak occurred three days later.

to be cont.

rockpicker said...

cont. from above

There are restrictions in travel: the source's husband had to bribe his way to cross one national border. In many villages one cannot leave. In larger towns, however, it's easier to find a way out. Taxi drivers are not permitted to leave a city without a military licence. The source reported on one occasion seeing several pick-up trucks traveling together between cities which had on them a sign to the effect that one should keep clear as there were bodies on board.

About 10% of patients are recovering quickly and discharging after a few days. The rest are still in hospital and if not dead are not recovering after even three weeks. She noted that they might still die, so it's impossible to establish the true CFR [Case Fatality Rate]. In the Kyiv hospital where she works 40% of the staff are ill and the 600 bed hospital - usually 2/3 full - now has 1200 patients and they have even had to move bodies out of the morgue to make room for beds. Many who did not fall ill are not reporting to work. The healthcare system is breaking down. There is nothing in the pharmacies except for Aspirin - if one is lucky. Locals are falling back on traditional remedies and some groups (for instance) were going into the forest to hunt for medicinal mushrooms because they had nothing else to use.

No-one in Ukraine has accurate statistics. But WHO officials have been seen in many locations. Her colleagues are baffled because they look to the western media for news reports... and they see nothing. They cannot understand this. But what's happening in Ukraine is now being well reported in Russia. Furthermore, this H1N1 mutation is now apparently being encountered in Poland, Turkey, Russia and the Czech Republic.

The source had encountered cases of bubonic and pneumonic plague professionally and was familiar with the symptoms. In this new epidemic, the severe lung damage was so similar to pneumonic plague that she said "it was as if someone had taken the bacterial component of the plague and shoved it into a virus". Please note that we are not medically qualified and cannot comment on this remark, which may have been meant descriptively rather than scientifically. We do understand that bacteria and viruses are very different, spread differently, affect the body differently, and need to be treated differently. Also please note an important interview with a Ukrainian Coroner here (a short, must-read report) - which seems very likely to be accurate. We await further information. We are also interviewing Dr Bill Deagle again within the next 48 hours.
--Bill

"PDF DOWNLOAD Alleged killer of 14 at Fort Hood is on Obama’s Security Task Force

November 24, 2009 at 3:19 pm (Uncategorized)

[Initial reports as this event unfolded were that there were 2 to 3 shooters. Subsequent revelations indicate that Hasan may not have been a triggerman, and that apparently this entire event was a psyop executed to deflect attention away from a C-130 being loaded with gold and '33 and '34 series T-Bills and other certificates from a repository at Ft Hood, and flown off in a heist by the Bush gang in an effort to not be detected by the warring Clinton gang. It failed, and the Clintons found out. -ed]

Alleged killer of 14 at Fort Hood is on Obama’s Security Task Force

THIS CAME FROM THE WIFE OF A FORMER STATE REPRESENTATIVE. NOW WE KNOW WHY OBAMA DOES NOT WANT LIEBERMAN TO BEGIN AN INVESTIGATION OF CONGRESS. BUT AS OF THIS MORNING IT LOOKS LIKE HE IS DOING IT. THE TERRORIST’S NAME APPEARS ON PAGE 29. IF YOU WANT TO GO DIRECTLY THERE, START FROM THE BOTTOM, BUT THE WHOLE DOCUMENT IS VERY VERY REVEALING IN THAT THIS DOCUMENT WAS DATED OCT. 2008. HE WAS ALIGNING HIS STARS.

This needs to get out fast, and to as many as possible.
Nidal Hasan, the terrorist killer at Fort Hood is (was) on Obama’s Security Task Force !!!!..."

Pangolin said...

Parsing that last bit out there are several options....

1) Hassan was the shooter and was severely mentally ill. Since the guy did everything but stand by the side of the road in uniform holding a sign saying "I am seriously unbalanced and armed" this still holds weight with me.

2) The Hassan-Obama allegation is conservative poo-throwing in hopes of making something stick. Any President should be able to associate with any US Army officer without having to be concerned about being tainted. It was the Army's job to keep it's own house clean and they failed.

3) 'Hassan was NOT the shooter' which still leaves the US Army implicated. What the hell are they covering up? Not likely IMHO; too many witnesses.

4) Barack Hussein Obama, using secret muslim mind control, took control of Nidal Hassan (like Hussein) and shot up Fort Hood to cover up a bad news dump. If you believe this you need more lithium in your diet; a lot more.

We are pushing people too hard. Across the board. The "tough shit" attitude towards peoples legitimate complaints will feed blowback. The minute there were questions about Nidal Hassan's fitness he should have been sidelined and investigated or shipped to a non-muslim area such as Korea. Blaming this on Obama is pure crap. The Army fucked up in where they assigned this guy, how they managed him and if that isn't obvious nothing is. It was like beating a pit bull and leaving it with a three-year-old. Bad shit will happen.

Can we go back to blaming Obama for shit he has control of? Isn't there enough on that plate?

I don't know, fa. I think kids are pretty resiliant and are probably more adaptable than older generations. And, since they don't take anyone's word as gospel, including their parents, I don't think they'll bow down to TPTB as readily as other generations (except maybe here in Mormon HQ).

I saw a video on Youtube of a dickhead cop, screwing with people in downtown Balitmore. In the video he was harrassing these scateboarders pretty bad and instead of crying or pleading with the cop, these kids projected a good "fuck you" attitude towards the prick.

And I think one of the only reasons kids are joining the military nowadays is for money. I think there are a lot fewer Pat Tilmans around then there were in generations past and I think that's a good thing. Believing BS and blind obedience is a dangerous thing.

Hmmmm... maybe that's why TPTB wanted younger people to get the toxic flu vaccine? Damn, that's some paranoid thinking, huh? But, I wouldn't be so paranoid if they weren't out to get me all the time.

"..I wouldn't be so paranoid if they weren't out to get me all the time." Ahmen to that, Bro'.
We were called away from the campfire yesterday due to frantic e-mail entreaties to show up and support friends opposing the City Council in our little town.
Today, I will be cooking for the big feast tomorrow. I have to admit that the day before Thanksgiving is one of my favorite days. Happily, I don't have to cook the meat. I am trying to avoid the corn syrup and hydrogenated vegetable oil fest. Making creamed kale from the garden veggies, asparagus, and stuffed mushrooms. Bought a duck for us to eat at home, hoping to avoid the commercial carnage of the turkey. Just hoping that ducks are somehow treated better (woulda gotten a goose, but they were 30 bucks!. Making cranberry relish from scratch to avoid the canned food contamination. Trying to avoid the pitfalls with food anymore is like walking a trail of land mines. Jeesh!
I'm really concerned about this new epidemic that the lamestream continues to refuse to cover. Pretty sure it will really ramp up after the Olympics, which will take it world-wide real fast. Better stock up between now and then so you can stay home and avoid the masses. Vitamins D3 and C, colloidal silver, Comrade Simba's "snake oil", benzadrine (helps to suppress immune cytokine storm), and everything else you can think of to combat this scourge.
We've lost some family at the table this year, and they are missed. But, I am grateful to all of you for sharing your minds and hearts with us at our small cyber campfire. It is a fire that warms the soul and provides light in these dark times.

FA, thanks *blush*
I've been out of town for a few days, so I haven't had a chance to comment before today. We were visiting one of K's friends who lives at an ecovillage in Missouri (send me an email if you'd like to know about it) and I was really impressed by the kids there. There were about 15, only 3 of which go to public schools, and they were all incredibly intelligent, outspoken, articulate young people. The difference from the young ones I normally deal with was like night and day. This is what happens when kids have parents around.

I too think the next leg down is coming soon, probably after the holidays. We were inundated with Christmas radio stations all the way up and back -already. Grr. We spent most of the trip listening to CDs and the occasional rock station.

ras of course i have much to say about children because after all we are children in the broadest sense of the word even being long in the tooth there is no escaping the fact that this is true.
Our time is short on this level of existence, barely enough to even think about what else there might be other then the fuck fest that constitutes life as we know it;;
so i will throw a little something in after sorting out the mush from the mellon.

but first i would like to tell you guys about a vision/dream/stone? i had a few nights ago.
in that certain state of mind something occurred that stood my hair on end,
you know we talk about the reptilian this and the reptilian that well let me tell you this little story, in the story i was viewing in front of me a smoky wall of a kind of creamy yellow substance and as i watched it a circular opening appeared a little larger then a persons head and as i watched it on the other side of the opening a face emerged, looked at me and seemed rather surprised that i could see it, get this the face was the face of a fucking lizard, it was intelligent and became really taken aback that i was there and it didn't like it even though it was not afraid, not even, in fact as it looked at me i felt the life energy just start draining out of me, like i was a paper sack that started collapsing in on itself.
it was awful, and then its face disappeared and then another came to the opening and looked, it was different with different coloring and more authoritative and more powerful, it happened again this draining of life energy just for looking at this creature and i knew that there was no fighting this, it was as if my own life depended upon the benevolence of this fucking lizard. only thing is though it was not benevolent, it was as if i was in some kind of other dimensional universe that somehow they controlled for god only knows what reason, the only thing i knew for sure was that it was not from the goodness of their hearts, if they even had one.
WTF?
this was fucking creepy folks but the creepiest was the fact that they were so surprised that i could see them.
after a bit there was a study stream of them coming to the opening studying me and all had that unbelievable look that i could see them.
i could feel that we as humans had absolutely no defense against these creatures, that they were so powerful that just by looking at me i was as randy says doomed, i had no power against them.
i got the impression that we might be some kind of experiment and that was all, either that or maybe for food, not our bodies but for the psychic energy that grew from us,that they used for their own needs.
god damn it was awful.
are we nothing more then if not the actual creation of these creatures a species that they are using for their own ends like we use cattle,? the only thing i could come up with as an avenue of escape was to somehow mutate to a place where we could withstand the onslaught of their mental energys.
but i can tell you this much, i would not like to experience this what ever it was again.

might this be why evil is personified as a god damn lizard,?
ok i will go with the fact that this was just a wild dream thing but god damn it was really really fucking scary guys.,

i just has a vision of a turkey laying on the plate and it winked at me.
anyone in for a hit of good acid.?

happy save the boat people day folks, be safe and love one another like there is no tomorrow cause, well,,,

and this,

enlarge to read the translation.

in 1977 they dug up an Inuit indian that died of the flu in 1918 that had been buried in the ice, this flu had disappeared in 1957,they extracted enough material from the body to recreate that virus and reintroduce it into the human system, and it goes on from there, fucking great, ! this info is incredible and will give much needed clarity to what is going on for those that have not seen it.

duck and cover is taking on new meaning, how do we deal with this?

Its too bad that it seems as if humanity has to find extremes before it begins to swing back towards a more sane balance.

I think in just 20 years (if we all have that long...) society will collectively look back upon these times and shudder at the crazy.

The greatest difference the newest generation has from those that came before it is the reliance upon electronic gadgets for every tiny thing. I spent a couple of days with a friend who had kids ages 19 to 22 and all they did was text one another or play games on their cell phones. Texting a distant other was more important than carrying on a conversation in person. It was surreal. I think when the grid goes down- as it must at some point- watching the reaction of people addicted to constant electronic stimulation will be interesting, to say the least.

9/11: PENTAGON AIRCRAFT HIJACK IMPOSSIBLE
FLIGHT DECK DOOR CLOSED FOR ENTIRE FLIGHT

(PilotsFor911Truth.org) - Newly decoded data provided by an independent researcher and computer programmer from Australia exposes alarming evidence that the reported hijacking aboard American Airlines Flight 77 was impossible to have existed. A data parameter labeled "FLT DECK DOOR", cross checks with previously decoded data obtained by Pilots For 9/11 Truth from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) through the Freedom Of Information Act.

On the morning of September 11, 2001, American Airlines Flight 77 departed Dulles International Airport bound for Los Angeles at 8:20 am Eastern Time. According to reports and data, a hijacking took place between 08:50:54 and 08:54:11[1] in which the hijackers allegedly crashed the aircraft into the Pentagon at 09:37:45. Reported by CNN, according to Ted Olson, wife Barbara Olson had called him from the reported flight stating, "...all passengers and flight personnel, including the pilots, were herded to the back of the plane by armed hijackers..."[2]. However, according to Flight Data provided by the NTSB, the Flight Deck Door was never opened in flight. How were the hijackers able to gain access to the cockpit, remove the pilots, and navigate the aircraft to the Pentagon if the Flight Deck Door remained closed?[3]

Founded in August 2006, Pilots For 9/11 Truth is a growing organization of aviation professionals from around the globe. The organization has analyzed Data provided by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) for the Pentagon Attack, the events in Shanksville, PA and the World Trade Center attack. The data does not support the government story. The NTSB/FBI refuse to comment. Pilots For 9/11 Truth do not offer theory or point blame at this point in time. However, there is a growing mountain of conflicting information and data in which government agencies and officials along with Mainstream Media refuse to acknowledge. Pilots For 9/11 Truth Core member list continues to grow.

Well, my previous comment was a bit short, so I'll comment on the posting rather than dream of a good acid trip with my brother mf.

As someone raising a couple kids (10 and 12), I have had numerous opportunities to go on field trips, volunteer in the classroom, and meet many of my girls' peers. One thing I will say for them as a whole is that they are VERY easy prey for the marketing machine and other propaganda streams, with the parents being willing accomplices.

My main complaint about them is that they are often, as mentioned above, completely self-absorbed and totally distracted by electronic devices. Waiting for my daughter outside the middle school, I see kid after kid walk out the door of the building and IMMEDIATELY flip open their communication device and start texting/IM'ing. I also see this at the beach all the time. Girls on blankets all in a row, every one of them furiously texting away to, I don't know, the girl right next to them?

Backing up a bit, I imagine every generation looks at the next one coming up, scratches their head, and says "These kids are totally f@#$^ed".
I remeber how much wailing and gnashing of teeth took place when I was young and started to test my boundaries. Things don't seem to change much. It is our job when we are young to shock and horrify, and the bar just keeps getting raised I guess.

I can't blame the kids, though. A former bandmate of mine was telling me about how cool it was that his son had gotten a new X-box, and now he and his buddies could all "link up" and go on raids together in some sort of "kill 'em all" war game. I commented that it was amazing that technology could bring kids from all over the world together to engage in activities and share, but that it sucked that they were going on virtual killing sprees as a result (this is NOT an accident). He corrected my and informed me that the kids were all LIVING ON THE SAME BLOCK. (I used to do the "play war" thing as a kid too, but we would actually go outside and interact. I'd always manage to get wounded since the girls in the 'hood would be the nurses).

I blame the parents and their OWN self-centered, narcissistic tendencies for all of this. I will make no claims of being a perfect parent, but there are steps that my wife and I have taken to try and combat these tendencies. We have not had TV for over 3 years now. Read a book or play your instrument, or just go outside and catch some frogs. The kids do not get to surf the 'net unsupervised, and never chat, text, or visit Facebook, Myspace, or any other of their ilk. These things constantly reinforce the "look at me" mindset and more and more it seems like kids have trouble actually engaging each other face-to-face. These are SKILLS to be developed, and at the age I'm talking about if you can't deal with real people in real-time, trouble is likely ahead.

When we chose to have kids, we decided that no matter what, one of us would always be the stay-at-home parent so our kids would never know daycare or be latchkey. People that say it is impossible to survive without both parents working are completely, utterly, full of shit(well, unless you live in California). It means driving (well)used cars, passing on the vacation home, and maybe shopping at the second-hand store for clothing but it is damn well worth it as far as I'm concerned.

To be.....

Zoner said...

.....continued.

When I see a 12 year old girl walking around in pants that have 6" high letters on her ass spelling "JUICY", I blame the parents. When I hear about kids wigging out because they have had their cellphone taken away, I blame the parents for giving them one in the first place. No kid NEEDS a cell phone. When kids do stupid stuff with their computers and the parents say "I had no idea!" - their own damn fault. My kids are going to be the "odd" ones at times, but I think that is great. Oh, and ask my kids and they will tell you how mean I am for depriving them of these things - then wait for them to tell you how cool it is that their dad comes to school and is home waiting for them every single day when they get home. They GET it so far, and I'll fight to the bitter end to keep those channels open.

On the positive side, the kids I meet in the school and in social circles seem to be for the most part sharp, funny, engaging, and positive. There are those few dark, brooding, antisocial types, but not many. You'd be amazed at how those types often respond to simply engaging them on a level that suggests they are worthy of hearing. A little positive engagement seems to go a long way, and since I always get the "problem" kids in my group (due to being male, I suppose) there are plenty of chances to do just that. I see lots of good and much promise, but we are still talking about 10 and 12 year olds, so my opinions might change when I have 2 teenage girls to contend with and teir peers get even wilder.

For those who have played by the rules, gotten the education, and now seek employment to pay off their student loans and eat - I'm really, really sorry but you now have a choice. Take all those fine skills you learned between study time playing "Call of Duty" and join the service, or help the rest of us move towards a new and better way of making things happen here. I know they have it in them, and we need to support everyone no matter how damaged they seem to be by their environment. Kids adapt, and often just need to be treated like human beings. How can we blame them for acting crazy when they look for us for guidance and protection, then see what we have allow to happen to the world. We all helped create this mess and it will take all of us to pull out of it, the self centered, scantily clad, misled youth included

Peace.

Z

Ooh, long story a tad longer. I'm not quite as scary as Pangolin (chuckle), but plenty suspicious in my current VERY well-to-do 'hood with my longer hair, Doc Martens, and black hoodie, so going on a field trip is always a treat since it is always the case that I am the only male on these trips. I got the chance to ride along with a couple of very nice moms last time and heard all about the struggles they have getting their 10 year old boys to go to sleep at night. Seems that they are so scared of SOMETHING that BOTH moms had to continually go into their son's rooms and PRAY with them until they finally fell asleep. I think mom#1 caught the WTF look on my face after hearing this story and said "well, I usually like to listen to talk radio when I drive, how about we do that? Glen Beck is on and I just love him - how do you guys feel about that?"

Mom #2 - "Oh that sounds great!"

Me - "Well, it has the potential to fill me with murderous rage if I have to listen to him for more than a few, but go ahead"

We listened to "Light Rock" music instead, and I saw some genuine concern in their eyes. I loved it. Maybe the kids hear too much of that shit or get a steady diet of FOX programming in their home, and that is what keeps them up at night.

Sorry to be so long-winded, guess I made up for that last one. I have faith in the kids; it's the parents that concern me the most. Hey mom and dad, get over yourselves and find out what your kids are up to! Give them your time instead of the latest gadget.

More peace, with a side of love for good measure.

First of all, this comment is for the newbies cause everyone else here has heard my bullshit time and time again wrapped only in new swaddlings as SATS has pointed out so graciously, that brother of whom i hope is having a knocked up time on his and his main squeezes holiday.
Also it is rather long and ask forgiveness for this, sometimes just don't to leave well enough alone, always been that way though/

Right on RAS
from the very start i knew there was something drastically wrong with being a child. scared shitless at being brought to the front door of my first encounter with terrorism, a public school.
so called education in this country has as its foundation an idea straight out of the corporate mind fuck.
the little cocksuckers need to know how to read the push here button on a machine in one of their factories. this is cutting to the chase but it there it is,
but even more then that the farm attitude of doing what is necessary to stay alive, such as slopping the hogs and such, and going fishing whenever there was time for it.
in the race to see which rich douche bag could outdo his (and it was and is his for the most part) fellow douche bag this attitude just would not do.
these mutants needed someone to man their machines all day and all night in order to facilitate maximum production.
so the idea of schools to teach the little brats not only how to run the machines but to get use to the idea of living out their lives in slavehood in one of their factories, note , 8 to 4= school day?, morning recess=coffee brake? lunch, afternoon recess=coffee brake? condition the little fucks to the idea that this is the normal and anything else is, well anything else and just if not forbidden looked down upon as sub-something, country bumpkin? etc? whatever, but today the mindlessness that constitutes a high school graduate is an incredible nightmare.
these kids are about as useless on anything that actually has to do with staying alive if left on their own as tits on a boar. i know because i see it every day.
one of my children raised by the mother,(its complicated) makes around $ 90,000 a year but cannot find the dip stick on his car to check the oil, this is computer age stuff and can pay someone to check the oil for him.
imagining him with his arms up to his elbows inside a hanging deer removing the innards and processing it is pretty much just that, imagination.
he learned this skill of being able to manipulate computers from the mother whom has recently undergone removal of body parts from the sedentary lifestyle that this ''skill'' includes for many.
however these are not the mainstream kids that i encounter daily,
at noon at the only little grocery store in town the kids walk from the ''school''(detention center because that is exactly what it is, a legal detention center,it has a punishment room all painted in white and a chair where the kids that forget to take their RITALIN
are placed for not PAYING attention.) get their daily noon fix of junk food, and my god you should see what these teens and younger put in their developing bodies.!! it is a fucking disgrace.
it seems as if maybe at least one half of the little farts are obese or on the high side of overweight, and it looks anything but healthy, the ones that have no extra money for the junk food, well they stay in school and eat their junk food in the cafeteria, subsidizes shit from the obama administration, crap that i would never feed any animal that i was in charge of keeping alive.
i feed my two, now three after a recent arrival of a tiny pup, chihuahuas beef heart which i get for about seventy cents a lb.(cause people think its gross to eat beef hearts i guess) and i know that they are more healthy then any kid in the detention center hands down.
now ain't that something?

but you know what? some of these kids are absolute whizzes at computer games and can type faster then the eye can scan it seems. and i guess in the future, if there is one they will be maybe be able to figure it out. i sincerely hope so but i doubt it.
the nightmare we are immersed in now is only going to get worse because entropy apparently has a job to do.
to change it is said comes from the individual, not the collective.
the collective is merely a reflection of the individual and when this country finally commits its final suicide act it will come from the heartlessness of the individuals that have made it this way.
no one to blame really, except if one wishes to look in the bathroom mirror, and see the cause.
atonement seems to be at hand whether we wish for it or not, but i think we on some level have asked for it, life is just to much of a bitch to continue the way it is now.
the problem it seems is overwhelming and is it that the mind is sagging at the seams because of the complexity of contemporary society, and are the people of the world as crowded as the human mind seems to be? has one thing a relationship with the other?
the useless baggage that lives in the back and the front of my mind seems impossible to dump at this point. it is crowded, overflowing with the severity and lack of human kindness as experienced by the inner being and projected to the world outside.
the cage is tight and waters salvation is polluted beyond drinkability.
i think that a kind of suicide must take place within the human mind, this cannot take place from without, that will not do any good whatsoever. the jugular
vain to fear must be severed, because this is the slave master, which controls all of us in one way or another, just ask p, he knows, we have been programed to deny our ACTUAL, and fear is the tool in which it is done, and it works for the ones with the tool? i don't think so, maybe they get more pussy in their brief stint on this plain but thats it. they rot just as fast as the baby rapers that encourage circumcision and little boys to sing in the choir, what must it be like to screw an eight year old boy, ask a man of the cloth, he might tell you.
the darkness of human expression is enveloped within this incredible denial of the actual, we have been taught that we are filthy to begin with, ( all have sinned and come short of the lord )?
the same book, thou shall not covet thy neighbors wife, (unless he's at work),that shall not steal,( unless you can get away with it) see what i mean. the undermining of the human expression is wrapped in guilt and absolute denial of the original human birthing ,whatever the fuck that is, how can we know, it has been beaten out of us one way or another for ever it seems.

my friends i put forth that this original birthing must be uncovered and explored to its first creation and that until this happens the humans are like randy says, doomed with a capital D.

Rockpicker,

Yup, been reading about that conclusion. Have you seen the rebuttal yet?

Zoner,

When I was getting my degree in teaching, I had to do the practice teaching thing of course, under the supervision of supposedly good teachers. That is when I realized I had just wasted about 110 hours of academic work. I concluded that if this is what teaching is about, and if this is what the kids are about, let me outa here. I had taught before, uncertified, in specialty stuff, even a stint at a 1 room schoolhouse, but never encountered what I found in practice teaching.

Now that is what I encountered. If I assume that this experience was universal, or if I assume it is only one school out of many, I am going to look at things differently. The link I put up earlier in the comments contains a link to about 23 or so high school girls putting on a show called 'Skip Rope Dance'. I looked at that and tried to imagine how many hours of dedication to be able to put on that routine. None of them were overweight for sure.

I wonder just what exactly is going on with the young kids these days. We tend to hear all the negative stuff on the news media. And, you are right, lots of negative stuff about the behavior of the younger folk back in the day, I was one of the more ornery ones most of the time, especially when I got out of high school.

The question for me is whether it is any different today or not. Or just a difference in approach. Too many question and not enough hard answers. sigh

w/v suckboe lol

Montana,

One of the biggest problems (but not the only one of course) that I see for the kid today is they are never unsupervised. There is an adult there almost all of the damned time telling them what to do. It's considered very bad parenting if kids have time to themselves, even to get into trouble. When I was a kid, I had lots of time to myself. For the youngsters today, hardly any, and later it's tied to the electronic gadgetry, movies or TV. I imagine today it is unusual to find a kid that is self actualizing and can think. Too bad, don't ya think?

Of course, back in the day, did we really have much of chance to be self actualizing?

Z, I wonder if you know how much of a blessing it is to your daughters, and to an extent, all of us, to have a good father influence in their lives. Generations of damage has been done. From the days of the Goddess wiped from collective memory through the beatings and burnings at the stake from the middle ages, through the slavery and bondage and exploitation of the churches and mosques and the domination of women through time from their fathers, husbands, and bosses ... this terrible suffering and crushing of spirit held in the DNA of her cells is healed by a good father. When you raise a daughter with love and great care, when you use your strength to protect and nurture them, when you value them enough to listen to them as well as lead them - they become whole and I believe that it heals those who have come before as well. And, when they have children, they will honor you by paying the blessing forward in a million different ways. The pact that you and your wife made seems so natural, simple and sensible. But in these demented times, it has become a revolutionary act.
We live in a tense and fertile time. As our planet travels through the galaxy and pokes its head up into the debris of the asteroid field and encounters the vibrations of change from the galactic core, time itself is becoming more fluid, I think. What we do effects more than just us. If affects the past as well as the present and the future. I just have a sense of it since I took a hit of sunshine back on a beach in 1971... so, you know, make up your own mind about it. At any rate, I am profoundly grateful.
And, Montana, I hear in your lament the echo of the ghost dance. John Trudel sings, "You don't have a chance against my prayers.... we shall live again." It feels to me that the ghost dancers are living again, and we are listening to their drums and swaying with a new dance. Certainly the motherfucking school system and this soul sucking economic clusterfuck isn't as bad as the trail of tears and the dispossession and betrayal of the people. Maybe this is an opportunity for a "do over."
"Oh, My Children, dry your tears. It is a good day to die. We will live again." the song says. This time around, we are the many. They are the few.

Murph and Freeacre, thanks for the feedback. As one who grew up without a father, heck, without a parent really, it seemed the thing that most needed correcting when we chose to have children - just being there available for them.

To put my experience with the school kids into perspective, I should probably mention that I am, myself, still a child. When my heart is open and the brain is calmed, the world still seems a place of wonder and invites me to engage it as a playful friend rather than an adversary to be feared or conquered. There is very little difference between myself and the kids I meet, and I try to engage them as equals rather than as an authority figure. Kids are so much more capable of things than we give them credit for, I think, and the problems seem to stem from our attempts to create mirror images of ourselves by passing on what we think we know while stamping out the child's own interpretation of things, thus invalidating them. I have learned a hell of a lot from my kids over the years.

I don't want my kids to be just like me. I want them to be who they are meant to be and will allow them to make their own choices and mistakes without condemning them for it. They are going to anyways, so why should we try and steer them into the same mistakes we made on our voyage and then assume they will be better off than we are? Shouldn't we be evolving here?

I want my kids to improve on the things they get from their parents. Take the good and leave the rest, then write your own story with us as supporting cast, not director.

The work is far from done. This is the reason I pray that my disease doesn't finish me off too soon. I still have much work to do.

I have never heard of John Trudel, but something tells me I need to hear what he has to say. My children's ancestors walked the Trail of Tears after all. So much healing to be done.

So much of what we use as our operating system currently appears to be expired and needing a replacement. I'm all for tossing out the majority of it and starting over. The kids are not part of the refuse pile, however. They are the ones who can redirect and man the new vessel. Few of us have that capacity it seems. They are our only hope.

Z

Another afterthought; the girls spent their first few years in a inner-city school with a huge population of immigrants (mainly Hmong and Somali) and lots and lots of urban poor. Between the language and cultural barriers and the sheer number of poor, single parent families represented it was a vastly different scene than the current obscenely wealthy one. It was chaos and seemed quite dangerous at times. More pressure just to survive means a different set of problems I suppose, so my experiences have been at both ends of the spectrum.

RAS, thanks for your effort and please forgive me if I have rambled or taken hold of the stick for too long, but in all honesty folks, being a father and husband is all I have left to define myself by, and I'm so O.K. with that. I can think of no more important work here.

if i was a bettin man, which i am, i'd bet MF has nailed it.

what it is is point of emmergence of essence. what could come from this re-birthing? heart. true heart. the walkin talkin balance point. not denied heart. which is most of what we have now. this is the heartlessness to which MF referred. true heart can be born out of this heartlessness. why? to realize the difference. and then to choose. when we get that, when we realize it and understand it then we will be able to... well, i can't put it any better than z did... "When my heart is open and the brain is calmed, the world still seems a place of wonder and invites me to engage it as a playful friend rather than an adversary to be feared or conquered."

and i'd bet thats NOT a mental exercise only is it Z? its a felt experience realized in the totality of the body politic upon which the mind can make decisions and take actions. in a nutshell what that means is i will no longer have a need to overpower another even though i realize now, having re-claimed what i had for so long denied -my personal power - that i could use it to that purpose if i so chose to do so. but i choose not to because i no longer need to... p

From. the days of the Goddess wiped from collective memory through the beatings and burnings at the stake from the middle ages, through the slavery and bondage and exploitation of the churches and mosques and the domination of women through time from their fathers, husbands, and bosses ... this terrible suffering and crushing of spirit held in the DNA of her cells... ".

all of that and worse is as its been. much worse. there are reasons why this is so. words do not communicate for the feminine as she does not communicate in words. she communicates as intuition, emotion, receptivity, and desire. in the body politic this manifests as feelings. in body receptivity is manifest as the magnetic receptor centers. feelings are charged energy. its the mind that puts feelings into words. in your own experiences have you found it easier to accomplish something if you feel a passion for it? the juice? are rage and fear, for examples, generally considered negative and something to be gotten rid of? duh! its not the rage and fear that are negative. its the judgements against them that make them so. those judgements are ancient and have held these energies frozen in the primative state they originally manifested. they weren't alone in that primitive form. so was the mind (masculine) from which these conclusions were drawn. thats that intelligence many ascribe to father god.

there they are. the mind and the emotion. the masculine and the feminine. the 2 ways through which we experience. what came together in the original creations to which MF refers. the phenominal powers of the electro and the magnetic interacting out of which everything emmerged. the father and the mother. and then the children. read FA's words again. this awful treatment came from somewhere. where do you spose that might be? and out of that came us, the manifested spirits. we are the reflections back to the godhead. and a sorry state of affairs it is.

a better question yet, why has it not changed? and could this be causal to the cycles of cataclysimc earth events we find in our geologic records and myths and legends? could it be these events are the mother earth moving to clear what has been shoved in to her to hold? denied or not, its still energy. connect the dots. sooner or later this pent up energy has to move. movement seems to be the key. the release.

that all sounds like we could conclude therefore the godhead is to blame. only prob with that is the little fact that we're the manifested spirits that rolled out from those original events. we ARE the energies manifest. with us rolled this little thing called choice. we can choose to move with the charges or we can choose to continue to deny as unacceptable. until we run out of the time alloted to learn the lessons presented by the reflections. we can still move with it as this cataclysimc event unwinds and such is the best chance of survival. time alloted is determined by distance past the balance point at which point a sort of fail safe kicks in as the greater cosmic forces interveining to move U back toward the balance point. this overrides choice and takes care of bid'ness for us. that not much has changed in all of time explains the cyclical nature of these cataclysmic events and why it appears to be fractal. it appears that way because it is. which is exactly where we are now. again... p

wv... rellysid. ya, really!!

Right on, mf and p! I think a lot of our problems stem from the denial of the sacred feminine. The Abrahamic religions have tried to kill the Goddess for upwards of five thousand years -and yet she lives on. Beat that, suckers. This urge to dominate and control, this greediness, this does NOT come from a place of balance.

You know, I'm not a scientist or anything, but since we humans, Murikans in particular, seem to need so much CRAP from our world to make ourselves totally freak'in happy, I figured that destroying everything around us for the purpose of making ourselves totally happy would probably do some damage on our ecosystems, climate and health -and the simple fact that GW Bush, DICK, Fox Noise, Orin Hatch (our dickhead Senator) and all other right-wing nutjobs said that climate change was just nonsense or whatever, that maybe these climate change scientists were giving us the straight scoop.

I don't know, man.

I'm gett'in ready to throw out my computer, read fantasy books for the rest of my life, live in a cocoon or something, void of all information spewed from spewville and ignorance is bliss kinda stuff.
Oh, and I'd wheel a beer IV around with me everywhere I go.

Well my feelings on this climate gate brewhaw is that some errant climatologist do not mean that the thousands of other scientist and the vast array of supporting information for the validity of antropogenic climate change is now to be considered bogus.

An analogy of what the thickness of the atmosphere is compared to the earth is thats its similiar to a coat of paint on a basket ball. Now we have been putting extra greenhouse gases into this thin paint layer since we have begun to burn all sorts of things in gargantuan quantities in recent centuries.

Greenhouse gases have very definite warming properties when existing in the atmosphere. Their concentrations have risen rapidly especially since around 1850. The climate as a result is seeing more extreme conditions on either end of the cold/warm spectrum regarding storms, with the overall worldwide temps rising rapidly fueling these growing dis-ruptions in earth's climate.

The Climate Change naysayers will do their best to get all the mileage they can out of this " Climategate " incident. As far as anything of real consequence being done that will mitigate the dire course humanity is on regarding our warming world, there is none, and IMHO there won't be ( Copenhagen included ).

As the world's economic and social conditions go from bad to worse peoples energies and efforts, and the dwindling finances of collapsing economies will be involved with addressing the practical realities of trying to populations trying to just survive the on-slaught of degrading realities. Grand efforts to save earth's climate, as vitally important is this really is, will fall further and further down the priority list.

Randy, I don't speak about this much, but I'm a trained scientist and trust me, the data on climate change is very real and very scary without any manipulation. This whole climategate thing is being blown out of proportion by people who want us to think climate change isn't real, so we can go on with BAU and not worry about our impact on the environment. I think it's happening now because the Copenhagen meeting is this month and they want to kill any remaining chance of any real moves happening.

I agree with you guys. Even if the warming is due to more to the sun's influence than the CO2, there is no doubt that the acidification of the oceans, and the resulting suffocation of the coral and plankton is plenty dire enough to warrant big time change.

By the way, Hot Springs, I stupidly lost that great picture you sent of you looking outwards toward the distance. I very much want to use it for my next post, which is all ready to go. If you could send it again ASAP, I would really appreciate it.
