Just Who Is the Crazy One?

Still some good stuff left over from Christmas.... homemade cannoli!

... and Brie is starting out right with new tennis balls for Christmas. Can't really see it, but there is one in her mouth.

By Murph

Finally the Christmas season is over. Now that my computer is back up and working right again, I can get back to the doomer reading and speculation.

Every once in a while I run into someone who wildly explains that I am crazy to believe or look seriously at some issue. Had an acquaintance not too long ago that declared, in a loud voice for all in the immediate area, that peak oil was a bunch of garbage, intimating of course that I had to be crazy to even consider it. It was pointed out to me that the huge reserves that have been found in the last few years would keep the U.S. running for the next 500 years or so, completely forgetting that domestic oil production is sold on the open market for whatever the market will pay. The most usual thing that is put in my face is the Baakan oil reserves in the U.S. The last time that was used, I asked what their source of information on that reserve was. I was told to just Google Baakan reserves and I would get all the info I needed. So, one more time I decided to see what the information was. The very first entry from Google was a forum where some guy wrote in wildly exclaiming that there was no shortage of oil in the U.S. because of the shale oil in the Baakan reserves, would feed the U.S. oil habit for the next 200 years. Then I found a bunch of states, mostly from the Oil Drum web site, but verified it from some other sites also. It seems that the recent USGS study, if they are to be believed, say that the recoverable oil from that site is 3.4 to 4.3 billion barrels. Frankly, that doesn’t even qualify as a super site. In fact, all the larger discoveries in the last 10 years have been in that range, or somewhat larger, but not a super site.

Some stats for your information; The U.S. has been using from 18-25 million barrels per day for the last 5 years. The 18 million barrels is from the last year stats. That works out to 6.8 BILLION barrels per year. Current U.S. oil production is around 5 million barrels per day. This means that the Baakan reserves if pulled out right now, would last the U.S. about 300 days at last years usage. Long way from 200 years plentiful and cheap supply. In fact, the total world oil production is around 3 billion barrels per year, Considering that they are trying to extract oil from more and more expensive and hard to maintain regions (like deep sea and shale and sands) it sure doesn’t appear that our usage is sustainable for much longer. Hmmm. And oil is now over $90/barrel and gas is over $3.00 per gallon.

So who is the crazy one here?

A very good friend of mine once suggested that one way of defining a crazy or insane person is that their brain processes information different than most of us. Of course, the popular idea is that a crazy person is not dealing with reality, not including just what in hell reality really is and if it even can be identified. When I read through history it often touches on the insane among the population. Interestingly, the insane can be right just enough to make a mockery of the “not dealing with reality’ crowd. Of course those really primitive people often revered the “crazy ones” among them for having communication with god or gods. But of course, we can’t take them primitive folks seriously now can we. We know better now, and you would have to be crazy to look at that seriously. By our present paradigm on the subject, the Old Testament prophets were flat out crazy, talking to god and such schizophrenic behavior.

Freeacre wants me to include my/our predictions for the next year and beyond. I’ve never offered something like this before but here goes.

Employment; won’t get better; in fact I predict unemployment is going to keep going up. I expect it to exceed 1930 levels of 20% in the next year. Only so much government hiring will take place and I figure we have just about reached the limit at this time. Lower level manufacturing jobs are not going to be coming back anywhere in the near future. College degrees, that used to insure high paying jobs, are going to be shown as having less of an impact on individual lives compared to our past. More and more hi tech jobs are going to be shipped somewhere else and the demand for degrees will go way down in this country. The few stats on this show it is already happening.

U.S. and world finances; they are going to get worse too. Dollar will eventually be devalued. Our business as usual paradigm is going to take some serious hits. What will result is pure speculation. The un-capitalized hedge funds are going to have to be absorbed one way or another. See next entry.

Government; it will become less and less important to individual lives and just plain become irrelevant, even if very dangerous. At every level of government, and particularly at state and local levels, look for some pretty shitty and unique ways they are going to try and skim even more money out of your pocket as the financial situation worsens, in the form of increased fees and more tickets etc. I don’t know how much longer we can expect government to take any action that maintains the safety nets and entitlements that are in place. If the government prints the money for distribution for these entitlements, we can expect run-away inflation which would just negate the value of the entitlements anyway. I do not expect the PTB to back off of the business as usual paradigm in the next year, they are going to defend it savagely down to the bitter end.

Education: going to continue to degrade, graduating even more really uninformed stupid people. Colleges and Universities will begin shutting down because lack of students, cost are out of reach except for the wealthy and jobs are scarce anyway. Plus we can expect next year big defaults on student loans. There will be a continuation of degrees being just another name for job training, having not much or nothing to do with being educated. Consequence will be an even more rapid decrease in logical thinking among the general population, and the inability to see consequences of actions taken and belief systems upheld.

Politics; it is already apparent that political parties have no relevance to the general population, but only to the elite power struggles. I expect that to become even more evident and the consequence to the general population is going to be even more negative. I also expect that the political infighting will become increasingly savage, disappearing or plain old assassinations of opponents more common, and excuse me on this, but more nut cases like Palin coming on line.

Food, shelter, and water; are going to become more expensive to obtain or maintain. Water is already becoming a problem and I expect food to be an even bigger problem than it already is this next year, expect a tightening of all kinds of silly shit, like the making illegal to collect rain water for your home. While housing purchases are much lower than in 2006, maintenance costs are going up with inflation. Some necessities for life are going to become out of reach for a lot of people, even more than it already is.

Travel; I expect travel to become ever more difficult and/or odious for most people, ie, the air travel screening. I expect to see more restrictions and stops on the roads, making travel even by auto more odious. Expect to see air travel screening applied to most bus and rail services also. Better learn to stay at home to have a life.

Standard of living; will be going down for most of the population. Get used to it now and avoid the rush.

Religion; is going to also become more radicalized and have less relevance to most people. Conflicts between sects and believers and unbelievers will increase. I expect some of these conflicts to become savage and violent.

Medical and health care; I expect higher prices and decreasing services except for the wealthy despite the new health care bill. Big up tick in non allopathic medicine I expect, more natural and herbal remedies, more practitioners of Chinese and related medicine. I also expect more incurable (probably genetically engineered) diseases coming at us. Less people will be kept artificially alive. I don’t expect a big surge in death rates, not this year anyway and in this country. The rest of the world is open to speculation.

Weather; I expect more violent and unusual weather world wide. Exact causes are being debated, as well as the nature of what to expect.

From freeacre:

I would add a couple of predictions:

The internet will be more regulated and under surveillance for "domestic terrorists." Anyone not supporting the corporate paradigm, including the resource wars, will be suspect. We may decide that keeping a blogsite is too dangerous for us and as a vehicle for our tribe.

If it looks like the sheeple are becoming restless in any big way, we may see an outbreak of war or some space based disclosures, such as alien bases on the moon or Mars, space battles, alien DNA in our genetic code, and whatnot.

I think that the consequences of the contamination of the Gulf of Mexico and the seafood from that area will be awful. The sicknesses that people are experiencing will become obvious even to the lamestream media.

It may be confirmed that the Gulf Stream has been interrupted and that is contributing to the unusually cold weather in Europe. We may not have much of a summer this year, and have to start building greenhouses in a big way. We should stock up on seeds that can be sprouted in that case.

Wilder and wilder speculations on "The End of the Mayan Calendar" and associated doom scenarios will be featured on cable TV and other popular sites. The magnetic pole keeps moving towards Moscow, and more and more near-miss asteroids may head our way, since our solar system actually is entering the galactic center.

Scalar weaponry and military uses of "new energy" might be rolled out as Peak Oil production can not be denied much longer. The Pentagon has already acknowledged it, so it's only a matter of time.

Fear and loathing are going to be fostered by all these fear tactics, and snitches and squid minions will be on the prowl. Our challenge will be to keep cool and try to remind people of the fact that the American Dream has been based on freedom, inclusion, justice, fair play, tolerance, and helping one's neighbors.

How’s that for doomer predictions? Lol

On the more optimistic front, I expect a whole lot more self reliance coming up next year, probably more communal living is in the works just for self preservation. I expect to see a turning away from the religiously organized con jobs that have been prolific for so many years. Probably a turning to more internal spiritual concerns by many. Not that I expect it to do much good in the immediate future to alleviate social distress and the physical demands of continuing on in this life but may allow people to exit graciously. I also see a good possibility of some of the older social organizations come back to life as our society gets mired down in all of the shit that is being heaped upon them. More groups will be formed for self protection and survival.

Overall, I am not optimistic about the near future but some good things may come out of it yet. For you and yours, we wish you all the very best. The more we cultivate our own lifestyles, the happier we will be.

Interesting post. Further to your predictions, here is an interesting piece from 60 Minutes:

Right on!

typo alert... "In fact, the total world oil production is around 3 billion barrels per year," missing a zero matey, which makes your point even more pertinent ;^)

I would tend to agree with most of your prognostications about our future Murph/Freeacre. As far as world oil supply, the information is all adding up to big trouble for the world's complex industrial economies that can't function without it.

The IEA has finally admitted that the peak of conventional oil occurred in 2006. A whistle blower from this agency not long ago cited that the US had long been pressuring the IEA to overstate the supply forcast. Two US military reports state that the US will begin to experience severe oil supply constraints somewhere between 2012-2015.

Stuff like the Baken Oil is just " lullaby " wishful fantasies, the term ( lullaby ) used by Greer in one of his recent missives about all the unreasonable pie in the sky dreaming for solutions thats going on. It looks like oil will go over $100 soon. As Orlov pointed out in one of his recent postings, there are alot of factors that look like they will see oil supplies declining even more dramatically, sooner than even the peak oil regular believers think. Gas price in our area is up at $330 a gallon. A new tax for California is set to begin the first of January, which will thru time add 61 cents to a gallon price. It all adds up to huge problems.

Hey RP here is a good article on the world ice volume decrease subject. Note the list of " Selected Examples Of Ice Melt Around The World " at the bottom:

http://www.sdearthtimes.com/et0400/et0400s9.html

Melting of earth's ice cover reaches new high

" As a whole, the world's glaciers are now shrinking faster than they are growing, and losses in 1997-98 were "extreme," according to the World Glacier Monitoring Service. "

Murph, I agree with all of your predictions, but I don't think all of them will happen next year, but rather over the next couple of years.

Also, I would venture to point out that unemployment is very probably at 20% already; 10% is the official number and you can probably double it to get the actual number.

Where do you find people to talk about this stuff with, anyway? LOL.

murph said...

Ras,

There are a few friends in this area that we sit down and exchange doomer predictions, observations and stats with. I sense that us doomers are still in the minority but gaining advocates. We also carry on email exchanges on such issues.

I note that it appears that those people with fairly substantial money inflows and savings are way less inclined to buy into the doom and gloom, although as the hacking away at their income and savings slowly start to dawn on them, some are looking more seriously at what is actually happening and drawing conclusions about it.

The thing I find most interesting is the finger pointing to the causative events and actions. While a few of the hard core neo cons around us are just beginning to wake up that something is really wrong, they want to just point to the liberal agenda as the cause, harking back to the glory days of Ronny Raygun, (from Stoney's lexicon). The hard core lefties want to point out the conservatives as the problem. All of which I believe is missing the point entirely.

It sure appears to me that we are living in an increasingly fascist system, not a Marxist socialist system. Many similarities between the two and very similar outcomes, only real difference is the distribution of power.

We are paying a heavy price for an uneducated passive and propaganda swamped citizenry.

We are so doomed

Yeah, I'll throw my 2 cents in as in agreement with y'all. I don't know whether it will all happen in the next year-- but certainly these predictions are easily made to be extremely likely in the next year to 3-4 years. Definite trends you'd have to be dense not to see if you have any access to information at all, certainly.

Also-- agreeing with Murph regarding how this country is becoming Fascist, not Socialist. The trends there are obvious as well. Rah-rah motherland nationalism, an increasingly paranoid public attitude with the populace encouraged to spy on one another, more incursions to privacy and less freedom to roam... the list goes on and on.

I may do a list of predictions as well for the next year on my own blog. Perhaps re-cap predictions of the last year that did or did not come true as well.

2011: A Brave New Dystopia

“Do you begin to see, then, what kind of world we are creating?” Orwell wrote. “It is the exact opposite of the stupid hedonistic Utopias that the old reformers imagined. A world of fear and treachery and torment, a world of trampling and being trampled upon, a world which will grow not less but more merciless as it refines itself.”

Another great post! Brie is so cute.

As for the peak oil some say it's a matter of simple 5th grade math. Maybe it was Ruppert who said that; doesn't matter. If the price was higher like in the EU perhaps we'd slow down and not waste it as much or at best, begin to face reality sooner. Yet the world wide demand continues to grow everyday, especially in China and India. We will probably never run out of oil...the point is we have already run out of "cheap oil": the easy to get a hold of oil at the tops of the wells. It's gone. The Saudi's are spending billions trying to get every last drop out of the sand they can get a hold of. We should have turned to the Sun 50 years ago and many say it's too late for that to be set up. Jimmy Carter put solar panels on the White House roof. "RayGun" tore them down to make a point that we didn't need to conserve energy. What an egotistical moron.

Happy New Year to all the bright conscious people of the trout clan. May you live long and prosper. hugs & love, mrs p

That said, I agree with some of what you wrote. Gas could cost as much as $5/gal by the the end of 2012. College is too expensive for too many kids. How many kids go to college and then end up working in retail for peanuts? Perhaps more should think about learning a trade?

My grandfather used to tell me that he wished he had become an undertaker because even during a depression people still died, so here would always be work! lol. He didn't work much during the Great Depression.

Meanwhile, Happy New Year!

Inflation or deflation? Global warming or Ice Age? Right now, I'm going for the Ice Age. It was almost ten degrees below zero when I got up this morning. We just put out flannel pillowcases for the rabbits to lay on. Couldn't stand the idea of them having a cold, drafty floor to sleep on in their hutches. Damn!

Thanks, mrs.p. Those cannolis were not easy, as I had none of the right stuff to make them. I used rolled up tin foil to make tubes to keep them hollow and fried them one at a time in a cast iron pan. Made up a filling of creme cheese and whipping cream with almond extract, vanilla and powdered sugar. They were good. Tried to make them look like the ones in Godfather III.
Nice to hear from you, cygnusf3. It's your call, but with the way food staples are going up, and the wheat harvests getting ruined, etc. it wouldn't hurt to stock up on necessities in case there is a bank holiday and the trucks stop running. Of course, if there is a pole shift, we are gonna be toast no matter what, since we are surrounded by cinder cones and the Newberry Caldera. What a ride.
Watched a documentary on The Buddha last night. Got to come to terms with the fact that we are all going to die, nomatter what we do. Good to take time out regularly and just appreciate the beauty all around us and what a great gift life itself is. Having our solar system moving into the Galactic Center and riding along is really quite exciting to me. New energies all around us putting out a different vibration.... pretty awesome.
2011 is coming up soon. I don't mind saying "good-by" to 2010. It's kinda been "The Year of the Asshat" in my opinion.

murph said...

cygnus,

LOL went to your web site and couldn't make my comment work. Blogspot password doesn't seem to work sigh. Didn't know you had a blog. Thanks for your comment.

Yup, if one dwells to much on the nasty stuff coming at us it can make you crazy. I make an effort to not take it too personal and distance myself a bit from it. But, some days it does get to me. It's then that a mood elevator or something similar takes precedence.

I really do expect gas to go over $5/gal before the end of summer. But, then again, maybe not.

I feel real sorry for the graduates today. Way deep in debt for most of them and not much in work and I also expect that to get much worse. Big college loan defaults coming up.

The trades depend on a manufacturing base, which we no longer have. Doesn't look very promising to me unless it is an old time trade, like black smithing or water dowsing or (hah) even stone knapping.

Dave Eriqat said...

As for all those oil reserves that the U.S. supposedly has, if that’s true then why has U.S. production steadily fallen since 1970? We used to produce 10 M bpd; now it’s 5 or 6 M bpd. If all that oil we supposedly have were easily accessible, I would think that production would have increased, not fallen. Moreover, if we have so much oil, why are we conquering Iraq (second largest oil deposits in the world) and Afghanistan (for an oil pipeline, access to oil in the Caspian region and access to huge natural gas deposits)? Those wars are a terribly expensive alternative to simply pumping our supposed reserves from the ground.

I agree that the near future will be just like the near past, only worse. I think both of you have made sound predictions.

I still have my fingers crossed that chaos and unsustainability disrupt the plans for tyrannical world government. Clearly, the great unwashed masses are too ignorant, preoccupied, lazy and timid to fend for themselves, so all we can rely on is the laws of physics and mathematics to render “their” wicked plans untenable.

I see on CNN this story on a " No Refusal Checkpoints " that will be implemeted in " some states " as they mentioned. Its a police stop checking for DUI's and everybody is required to be tested ( blood drawn by force if you say no to the breathalyzer ), irregardless of probable cause. More evolving police state like actions here in the US.

Another story I saw reported today on CNN tells of lots of birds just dropping dead out of the sky at some location in Arkansas. I saw pictures of the birds just laying about on the roadway ( differant types of birds ). The " official assesment " is that they probably just died of being stressed ". Just stressed birds, nothing to see her folks, move along! I wonder if all the sprayed Corexit related to the oil spill has anything to do with it? Whatever it is saying stress caused this is just ridiculous.

Hotspringswizard said...

CNN said there were about 5000 dead birds and this occurred around 12 midnight, just before New Years Eve. The " officials " said perhaps the fire works scared the poor birdies to death!

Happy New Year from The North Sea. Or, Secrecy By Complexity

" One of the methods EIA Washington and IEA Paris have increasingly relied on in recent years to obscure the very serious and now very real problem of oil depletion is to include biofuels and natural gas liquids in the accounting of global oil production. "

" natural gas liquids are not oil, and they contain only 65% of the BTU of oil. Worse, biofuels are barely an energy source themselves and are the product of a conversion process of other energy inputs. "

murph said...

Hotsprings,

That last article you linked to I found very interesting. I did not know that the EIA included non oil products in their productivity reports. Now that is truly a scam. I had seen the two variant estimates of production but figured it was just a glitch in numbers. This article says it's not a glitch but a cover up.

A huge variety of web sites are putting out the reasons for scams like this to occur. It sure smacks to me of keeping populations compliant and uninterested.

We sure are being lied to all the time.

Regarding the dead birds a report this afternoon on CNN said that 17 birds were studied for cause of death and what they found was blunt force trauma to their internal organs.

I was thinking about this today and New Years eve there was the big extreme weather and tornado outbreak, complete with super cells which passed through Arkansas and I'd think at this point that a good case for the cause of this large bird kill could have been a large hailstorm with hail large enough to cause the blunt force trauma seen. I'm sure you have all seen how damaging big hail can be.

On another subject related to the large scale snow events and cold occuring in the Northern Hemisphere, especially in the last couple of years, I think this articles information highlights a more probable cause of these changes than the earth entering a new ice age.

If the Arctic and Glacier ice volume continues to decrease, as they are both doing right now, this is opposite to what you would expect from an overall cooling of the earth, which would eventually produce consequent growing ice structures around the world.

http://www.mpnnow.com/highlight/x1682084246/Online-Only-Climate-change-blamed-for-colder-winters

Climate change blamed for colder winters

" as the ice cap over the ocean disappeared, this allowed the heat of the relatively warm seawater to escape into the much colder atmosphere above, creating an area of high pressure surrounded by clockwise-moving winds that sweep down from the polar region "

" disappearing sea ice is likely to have widespread and unpredictable impacts on the climate of the northern hemisphere "

" If you look ahead 40 or 50 years, these cold winters will be getting warmer because, even though you are getting an inflow of cold polar air, that air mass is getting warmer because of the greenhouse effect,” he said. “So it’s a transient phenomenon. In the long run, global warming wins out "

Hey, some bad news: I clicked on Joe Bageant's website and there's a note from him saying that he has cancer. Inoperative, too.

Shit. I really like the guy, his writings and the way he thinks.

Got a bunch of people in our building visibly upset over one of our former physicians who's on his deathbed with cancer. I don't know him, but everyone says he's one of the best they've ever met. Then there's someone else in the building who won't be around much longer whom I DO know and think is just great. Always nice, always thinking of other, etc.

Yet DICK Cheney is STILL alive, GW Bush is STILL alive and playing golf, Yoo is STILL alive and a law professor, Limbaugh is STILL alive and popping pills while spewing nonsense, Gates is STILL around and Secretary of WAR, Ruppert Murdoch is STILL alive and manufacturing lies -and the list goes on and on!

Murph,

Nick Begich was interviewed by Alex Jones today, and at one point Nick mentioned he had read much of what Tesla had written and was quite familiar with the man's patents, etc., and he said the common theme running through Tesla's work was resonance.

Vibration.

Frequency.

He also talked about the absolute impossibility of spiritual ascension from a place of fear and hatred. Only through the positive energy of love can we attain the light. Personally, this is easier to understand than to achieve. The urge to rage is such a temptation! And patience, such a weight. Yet, I place the cut glass of my aspirations in a south window's light and hope.

What resonates with me is this quickening we all know inside as a tangible excitation.
When blackbirds litter the ground like broken angels and dead fishes demand answers with their inexplicable stinks, perhaps then faces along the bar will look in mirrors and see what future the powers that were still believe they have in store. We are sovereign. We are more than chattel, born into fraudulent debt and owing forever The State.

Well now as well as Arkansas, there are dead birds in Louisiana, and kentucky. And as well as the fish kill reported in Arkansas, today on Free Speech TV they reported a large fish kill in the Cheasepeake Bay ( spelling? ), tons of dead sardines washing up on the shores in brazil, and dead red snapper kills off Australia. Makes you wonder what the heck is going on.

Another big plunge of a very cold air mass will be moving into the central US over the weekend, and its coming all the way across Canada from the Arctic, par for the course lately. Glad to live down here in So Cal where we will be fortunately on the far fringes of this cold blast.

I was talking to this doctor name Mukesh this morning at the local Apple Valley Pool where I swim and he told me about living for eight years in Michigan. I'd be a frozen popsicle all winter if I lived in those northern states :-) RP, I figure you will be getting in on some of that cold thats coming.

I've been watching this channel on Dish TV ( 265 ) called CCTV which is Chinese Cable News. It actually has better info on stuff going on in other parts of the world than any of the mainstream BS news. Interesting to learn about things going on in China too and see reports from differant parts of that huge country. Besides that Link TV ( 9410 ) and Free Speech TV ( 9415 ) consistenly have really good info and documentaries.

" About 50 to 100 dead birds were discovered on a highway in central Sweden Tuesday "

Florida Professor Arrested for Having a "Suspicious" Bagel on a Plane

Passengers claimed man had suspicious package in the overhead compartment

By TODD WRIGHT
Updated 9:37 AM EST, Thu, Jan 6, 2011

A Florida professor was arrested and removed from a plane Monday after his fellow passengers alerted crew members they thought he had a suspicious package in the overhead compartment.
That "suspicious package" turned out to be keys, a bagel with cream cheese and a hat.

Ognjen Milatovic, 35, was flying from Boston to Washington D.C. on US Airways when he was escorted off the plane for disorderly conduct following the incident.
Monday's incident is another example of other passengers essentially becoming the authority on terrorist activity on planes.

Recently, passenger complaints have resulted authorities taking action against innocent passengers who went to the bathroom too often on a flight and who were just being annoying.
In the hyper-sensitive world of flying, sneezing too often could get you kicked off a flight and questioned by the FBI.
Milatovic, who is a mathematics and statistics professor at the University of North Florida, was minding his business when other passengers turned into super sleuths.
Passengers reported hearing strange noises coming from a plastic bag. State police said later that the bag contained a set of keys,
a bagel with cream cheese, some other small food items, a hat and a wallet.

When confronted by the US Airways crew about his "suspicious package," Milatovic got on his cell phone. The crew asked him to hang it up and sit down. When he refused, he was cuffed.
Milatovic was also charged with interfering with the operation of an aircraft.

Cannabis Sativa and Cannabis Indica
Rediscovered by a selfless Nova Scotian...

Only thing is, to get the curative benefits, you can't smoke it, and you have to take ALOT... so you might get just a teensy weensy bit high in the process, but no matter how much you take it won't kill you... unless you try to drive afterward.

Watch his story on youtube
"Run from the Cure - The Rick Simpson Story"

and also watch
"cancer: a cannabis story"
and
"vitamin cannabis"

I sent this info by email to Joe B, but I doubt it will help, unless he is willing to embrace the unknown...

I was tripping through and off of some of the links you lovely people have shared here, and I just came across

http://movetoamend.org/

which is a site dedicated to ammending the constitution to eliminate corporate personhood...
a very worthy goal in my estimation, even if it is likely too little too late, at this stage in the game.

I want either that, or a corporate death penalty...
One that would make any corporation that commits an act that would cause any of us to suffer the death penalty as individuals, dissolve and all assets of the corporation be transferred to the citizens demonstrably wronged by that corporations actions, or their survivors.

This would make corporations much more careful about making deliberate economic decisions/calculations that cost human lives or cause suffering and misery that amounts to torture. I believe it would also make their shareholders much more attentive to, and cautious about, the ethical/legal practices of the corporation they invest in.

Seems like just getting rid of corporate personhood would be easier, simpler, and less likely to be circumvented.

Cheers to all, and a very happy, local New Year to you...

From Belgium

I have no immediate opinion on the recent shootings except the surface comment that they are to be regretted particularly the innocents. In order to understand the situation further, I think it would be helpful to try to find answers to the following questions.

Was the attacker on any mind altering medication similar to the Columbine High School shooters?

Could he have been a Manchurian Candidate patsy?

Representatives have never been previously targeted, is there any power shift likely as a result of Giffords’ removal?

Could the target have been anyone other than Giffords?

Is this incident likely to result in further attacks on Second Amendment rights?

Could the Internet to be targeted for restrictions (unlikely imo)?

Is the Sarah Palin connection BS or do you feel there is anything in it?

I have been busy today and only caught up with the news about an hour ago.

Belgium and all,

I find this rather odd. 60 minutes and all local TV news are talking incessantly about the shooting. They cover the shooter, the congresswoman, the judge and a little bit about the little girl, and not one word on the rest of the people shot. (maybe are usless eaters and not officials?) Now there seems to be a consensus that the dude was "unstable", whatever that is supposed to mean. Also notice that nothing is said about his parents, or who raised him, or where he got the money for the Glock handgun.

I'm betting that this is going to result in more invasion on civil liberties, more push for citizen reporting of suspicious behavior, and a push for more gun control.

Something doesn't feel right about this.

Murph;

Agreed. Apparently, the shooter took a cab to the assassination, because NPR reported that cops held the driver for questioning, and later released him. Who would hail a taxi as an escape vehicle?

Re: Why Is Gifford Subscribed To Loughner's YouTube? Quote

From another thread:

[link to img717.imageshack.us]

It shows her being subscribed to the killer...notice the last login date....2 days ago. So she was subscribed before the shooting.
Quoting: bobw999

This is a complete smoking gun.

A) Why would Giffords subscribe to a complete nobody on Youtube, whose videos are all insane rants?
B) Even if there is a reasonable explanation for the above, what are the odds she subscribes to his page within the time range of mid-December when he made his youtube, and (according to last login date) January 6, 2 days before the shooting actually occured?

This needs to get attention, like, this is legitimately newsworthy and damning proof of something more going on.

What an inspired idea!! Move to Ammend:

"I want either that, or a corporate death penalty...
One that would make any corporation that commits an act that would cause any of us to suffer the death penalty as individuals, dissolve and all assets of the corporation be transferred to the citizens demonstrably wronged by that corporations actions, or their survivors." RIGHT ON!

I think there may have been a good reason that Rep. Giffords or her office was logged onto that lunatic's website. He had made several threats to her in the past and they may have just been monitoring him as a precautionary measure. If you read his youtube messages, they are clearly thought disordered, if not schizoid.
Notice how virtually ALL of the media coverage labels the perp as "unstable"? Not deranged. Not schizophrenic. Not crazy or nuts. No call for better mental health treatment in this country. Nothing about his family. Just hand-wringing about guns and rhetoric on the internet.

His trial will probably be saturating the media much like OJ Simpson's or the Bill Clinton blow job for the next year. So, all sorts of other things will get no coverage in the lamestream. The alternative sources will be more restricted.

Meanwhile, I am trying to get my mind around the question of whether I think that the "shadow government" is really engaged in die off plans or if I am just paranoid - not that it would matter whether I believed it or not.

My guess would be that she probably wasn't really subscribed to the Youtube channel, and if she was, it was a staffer who was trying to keep tabs on him, because apparently he had made threats. Also, as for the getaway car, I don't think he planned to get away. My guess is he planned to put his last bullet through his own head as the cops bulled up, or commit suicide by cop. Much more pleasant than getting arrested.

We've had more than 8 inches of snow are our house. We were snowed in all day today and probably will be tomorrow. We can't function this loose on a ship of fools on pharmacuticals. Just our humble opinion. And thoughts are things and they ripple out into the minds of Americans pushing the emotional buttons with negativity for the sake of ratings. Ugly but it works. We think it doesn't matter what the motive aside from being hired, brainwashed etc. (gee where did he get $500 for the gun? Probably a credit card?

Belgium had some thoughtful questions looking in from the outside. And how would any of us feel if that was our 9 year old daughter? We lit a candle for the victims. Too many idiots with guns despite 2nd Amendment...just too much negligence especially in states like AZ. Its sad and so lame that a freak like that can get a semi automatic with 30 rounds easier than he can get medical help. Ironic in light of the fact the congresswoman voted for healthcare. That could have been any one of us standing there listening in. It's madness. Makes one wonder why it really happened. Seems the lamestream is doing a great job of keeping going in cirlces.

Mrs P,

I think you are much more liable to be killed in a vehicle than by a gun or terrorist. The amount of homicides by vehicle I think exceed gun deaths.

Considering that the shooting took place in Arizona, I'm amazed that someone in the crowd wasn't armed and could have at least minimized the mayhem. I read reports all the time about how armed citizens do stop these kinds of things. It might be of value to look at how many armed crimes are stopped by armed citizens. Maybe I can spend some time on that tomorrow.

Instead, they relate to others either as potential prey or as a threat to their dominance."

that about says it all I think.

Remember the nukes that were flown across the country, from Minot to Barksdale, with no public explanation or debate?

"What the "news" is not telling you is -

Wheeler was the assistant to the Secretary of the Air Force in the George W. Bush Administration. It was the Secretary of the Air Force who discovered that Richard Cheney had set up an alternative chain of command to the nuclear weapons wing of the AF. In the process, six minutemen missiles armed with nuclear warheads were secretly transported from Minot AFB to Barksdale AFB. The later is the chief staging base for the Middle East war. The alarm system for the weapons was deactivated for the transport, something that not even the base commander could authorize. The orders had to have come from above. Many point to Cheney. Before the warheads could be flown via B-52 to the Iraq/Iran theater, the Secretary of the Air Force ordered the stand-down of all B-52 flights. When he discovered the alternative chain of command to Cheney, he fired all military personnel who were involved. Cheney was said to have been livid. The Secretary ordered an investigation of what the AF press release called an oversight, and 70 enlisted men and 5 officers were removed from the Minot nuclear system.

At the same time, people involved began to die mysteriously. Wheeler is only the latest casualty.
